lol...my kid, the poser.

i'm pretty darn sure I could find instances of killings that happened BECAUSE of religion.

What could you be inferring here? Human Discussion is 50% fact and 50% what people are trying to say between the lines. Remember your homework: post up crime stats in religious vs non-religious areas of the US.

If you're trying to say radical butcher oppressive murdering muslims in Iraq are the same as peaceful happy supportive law abiding Jews in LA - there's not really much I can do for you ma'am.

r

that's not a generalization, that's a fact. you said atheists don't hold fund raisers for eachother. that's true, because atheism isn't an organized religion. being organized DOES mean that killing happens more often for religion than for atheism too.

i'll find you some facts when i get to work, okay?

btw, what i was inferring is that I could find a lot more instances of killings happening because of religion, than i could about atheists at atm's...

“BAGHDAD:At least 40 women have died this year at the hands of religious vigilantes in the southern city of Basra, the police chief said Sunday, describing the discovery of mutilated bodies accompanied by dire notes warning against “violating Islamic teachings.”

“A Hindu woman has been killed as police have tried to control more violence between Christians and Hindus in the eastern Indian state of Orissa.

They say that the violence began in the state’s Kandhamal district when a Hindu mob attacked a Christian priest.

“Reports from exiles along the frontier confirmed that hundreds of monks had simply “disappeared” as 20,000 troops swarmed around Rangoon yesterday to prevent further demonstrations by religious groups and civilians.

“Violence against Christian evangelical and Messianic Jewish communities in Israel increased significantly during the period between July 1, 2007 and June 30, 2008, according to the US State Department’s Annual Report on International Religious Freedom. The report, released last week, put blame for the “tensions” on “certain Orthodox and ultra-Orthodox Jewish communities.”

Police in eastern India killed at least three people when they opened fire on a group of hard-line Hindus who set fire to a police station during ongoing clashes between Hindus and Christians, officials said Friday.

“JAKARTA, Indonesia — A dozen Christian men were convicted Thursday and sentenced to up to 14 years in jail for beating to death and beheading two Muslims to avenge the government executions of three Christians in Indonesia last year.

Five other Christians received eight-year terms for burying the pair, who were set upon by a mob as they drove though a Christian neighborhood on Sulawesi island a day after the Sept. 22, 2006, executions of Fabianus Tibo and two other Christian militants.

ONE in four young American Muslims thinks suicide bombing of civilians is justified to defend their religion, at least sometimes, according to a new report.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - “Hamas gunmen fatally shot six bodyguards from the rival Fatah movement and mistakenly ambushed a jeep carrying their own fighters, killing five. In all, 16 people were killed in the bloodiest day of Palestinian infighting since violence broke out in the Gaza Strip four days ago.”

17 Year Old Stoned to Death in Iraq for Loving Boy of Wrong Religion

“Five people, including two Muslim children, have been killed by suspected Islamic rebels in separate attacks in Thailand’s violence-torn south, police have said.

“Secondary school pupils in north-eastern Nigeria have killed a teacher after apparently accusing her of desecrating the Koran, police say.

lol at atheists and atms...what the fudge. You should find it difficult (at best) to prove that a violent act has anything to do with a lack of belief in god. To say that such a belief may prevent some individuals from engaging in criminal or violent behaviour, while possible true, is not sufficient.

You still don't get it do you?

Athiests find the NEED to put down God, look at your own thread - how you're laughing at your daughter going to a church event and she's not religious. Your insinuation is the religious people are bozos.

If you don't want to believe in anything - go right ahead. I don't care. Religion has done lots of good. Ask any Native American, Jew, Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist. They'll tell you millions of stories of people coming together, helping each other, praying for each other, protecting each other, etc.

lol @ posting islam articles. What did I just say?

Here, I'll say it again:

RELIGIONS ARE NOT ALL THE SAME

You can post those articles all day. I can post an article of a tibetan monk who lives in peace in LA all day. So what?

I think you and your daughter need to go to a Hindu or Sikh temple and spend a day there. Notice how people come together and help one another. You two need to get step away from CNN and get a little culture in your lives and look around. Yes that means getting out of the house and talking to people who don't look like you.

Because when this American society experiment crashes and burns soon - guess which buildings people will run to. Or my example: you go to jail, where will you feel safer: general population, or the inmates who found god?

btw: I'm an Athiest too but I was raised by Jews. But I do believe someone 'created' us. Everything in the universe has a creator.

hold up. I didn't put down god. i haven't insinuated anything, other than i think what my daughter did was cute. if you think i insinuated something, that's your insecurity about your religion speaking, not mine.

You asked me for examples, and I showed you, and now you're back peddling because i proved my point.

you also contradicted yourself here:
"btw: If u got shot and mugged and killed tomorrow on your way to the ATM - most likely it will be a guy who really isn't religious. People need to stop and realize that, just like humans, NOT ALL religions are the same.

I just love when people generalize in life. It screams to me their lack of understanding in this world (all blaque people are criminals! all women are evil!)."

it's you who's generalizing. I never said a bad word about religion, you did. :)

LOL All I gotta say is "Thank Allah or should it be Beelzebub? ...that apparently Jesus lives in prison, ....you know, where ALL of the inmates find him. Unless the inmate is black. Then he seems to find Mohammed or is it that he decides to change his name to Mohamed?"

It is a FACT that more evil has been committed by man in "the name of god" (or some god) than has been committed in the name of the devil.

However, if you don't believe in either of those entities then I suppose you just rape, pillage, slaughter and abuse because you like the way it makes you feel like you are in control and have power?

I wouldn't know as I've never broken the law or harmed anyone <--- pretty fukkin fantastic feat for "THE DEVIL"... wouldn't ya'll say?

I think the gyst of this thread is NOT that Stiletto or her daughter were making fun of "the religious folk" arround her daughter but that it was IRONIC that her daughter was accepted by those people because she was a nice person that was fun to be around and NOT because of her "shared religious beliefs".... or was the irony in that these peeps ONLY accepted her daughter because she felt pressure to feign those beliefs to gain acceptance?... which = the antithesis of what most christian-based organize religions are about.

also Razor... you keep screaming the same thing, and nobody has disagreed with you. yes, religions are not all the same. no shit sherlock.

and yes, religion does good too. so?

what does that have to do with the price of beans or the fact that my daughter likes the youth group even though she thinks the religious part is silly, and I think it's funny? you're on some big "defend religion" campaign and nobody has fought you on it.

perhaps your insecurity lies within your own beliefs, rg. Cause mine are firm.
