Proposal -- ban the bomb?

Mr. dB

I think the G bomb, COTB bomb and Platinum bomb have run their course. Time to eliminate these features, or limit them only to Moderators. Blacked-out messages are disruptive; more so, in my opinion, than the content that warranted censure.

Bombs are no fun. It's a negative feature that detracts from the atmosphere of the place. It's played out. Please consider this plea to ban the bomb?

I disagree.

Wait you want a forum that does allow more tension to develop in discourse, because this give it a more 'authentic' feel, yet u complain that the bomb is disruptive...
I'm not saying u have to be consistent or anything... but I'm not sure I sense a cohesion in your arguments...

I don't see anything contradictory there. Although "edge" might have been a better choice of words than "tension". What I was trying to express in that other thread wasn't that I value animosity, but a certain natural tension in human discourse is not necessarily a bad thing. But neither tension nor harmony have much value to me if they are phony or forced.

Silencing or censuring people's posts doesn't really add anything to the flow of the conversation. Just means I have to take some extra time to highlight their post before reading it.

I see... well can't argue with that...
I agree that a certain 'edge' is okay, and yeah, forced harmony would suck and make convo boring... I don't think that would ever happen though... as long as their is convo, there will be disagreement, but I disagree about the bombs... in fact I say make more bombs that express different type of emotional discord with the person...
I think the bombs provide a symbolic visual feel of discord that are way better than personal attacks through words... I would rather be bombed than some one calling me a racial slur, or whatever.

I like the bomb feature.
