even if they can't help you - at least they are aware of this going on. If not, nobody ever knows how widespread this problem is. Oh and stop letting 80 year old grandmas have access to that kind of cash!

Useless. They know how widespread it is, that's why no one is doing jack shit. My parents called everyone they could possibly think of and all they got was, "We know, we are getting this report all the time, we can't do anything about it."

I can't remember how it all exactly worked out, but they are using countries and states (within the US) that currently do not allow certain records to be subpoenaed. They are also using some sort of technology that makes the phone calls untraceable, and likely they are using throw away phones. The authorities literally cannot even begin to try and figure out who's behind it because legally their hands are tied.

The only offense here is defense, warn your loved ones.

oh and if a conversation ever turns to western union or bank wire - hang up the phone. I do think aftre this old fart generatin dies, the newer generations are a lot more savvier about these types of scams.

pretty sure organized crime guys use higher quality fakes than some 20 year old USC kid. not to mention their fakes are probably real issued IDs.
