suffering from bigorexia?

New member
I'm in the middle of my first cycle. Now I'm 220 lbs at
5' 11". I'm happy with my gains, but I don't feel like
a bodybuilder. When I look at myself I just see a gym
body. The average man in the US is 162 lbs at 5'9" so
I'm relatively large & hopefully getting bigger. In the
5 wks. I have already gotten so use to my new mass,
while others gasp in disbelief in how much mass I've
packed on. Does seeing ourselves( bodies) every day
give us a distorted, inaccurate picture of ourselves?

I am 220 at 5' 10" and I feel small. Guys at the gym tell me I am huge, or ask me if I compete and my first reaction is that they are joking... then I look in the mirror and realize that I am large. Needless to say, If I was a ripped 250 I would probably think I was small.

I hear ya boys, loud and clear. About 1 month ago, I was 215lbs. at around 8% BF. (5'10") I felt small and finally gave into another bulking cycle. I'm now 230lbs. and feeling better.

This is called dysmorphia.
It is like a reverse anorexia, but in reverse. Fairly common. My business partner had it when we were kids. Then he nearly tore his body in half doing extremely heavy DB Pullovers and still cannot lift heavy. This was six years ago......now he knows what it is like to be small!:mix:
By the way this is an illness-like anorexia.

I know exactly what you are saying,I have gained over 50 pounds since last January from cycling!Everyone in my gym knows I am juicing because I have made such dramatic gains. But I still feel too small, alot of times I wont even wear a tank top in public because I dont feel big enough to wear one.I am 5'7'',206 pounds with almost 18'' arms, but I only feel like I am 150 pounds. It sucks to have a strong body but a weak mind.

are you sure?

"The average man in the US is 162 lbs at 5'9" "

I thought there where a LOT of overweighted people in the U.S.

I got those statistics from a trivia type book called
"In a Nutshell"
You would think the ave. male weight would be higher
because there are many overweight people. I assume
the ave.male adult starts at 18 yrs. , many young people
fall below that weight. And then there are many old
people that are small also. They show a bell curve which
peaks at 162 lbs. According to the curve, it appears approx. 7% of the male pop. is only over 200 lbs.

Does that make you guys feel better! And just imagine
how many make it beyond that point through being fat.
If you are over 200lbs. w/ muscle you truly are an ex-
ception.

Here's more......

ave male chest 38.75 inches
ave male waist 31.75 inches
ave male hips 38 inches

they don't give limb measurements, but you can mentally
estimate what they would be.

Do you guys feel bigger now?
