Locking out on squats

The Red Dragon

New member
Is this supposed to be done? The last two times I squatted I experienced pain behind the knee cap (rapid lockout). The pain only lasted a few seconds and I kept repping out making sure I don't lock out (no problems). Does locking out damage the knee? Because I've always squatted this way with no problems.

dont slam your knees home. keep a "soft knee" and you should be fine. that last 5 degrees of lockout wont do anything for your quads anyways. all of the tension is midrange. you can flex your quads outside the squat rack or do leg extensions.
