Your latest CD purchases?

from zero

New member
Recently had a buttload of money in gift cards to blow at Tower Records, so I picked up some CDs:

Cold - Year of the Spider
As I Lay Dying - Frail Words Collapse
Dimension Zero - This is Hell
Devin Townsend - Accelerated Evolution

I am pleased with 75% of my purchases. But, I can't really be mad, because they were basically free. :)

What CDs have you bought recently?

Iced Earth - "The Reckoning" single/sampler
King Diamond - "The Puppet Master"
Devildriver
Speed Dealer - "Blood"
Hatebreed - "The Rise of Brutality"

bought all these within the last 3 or 4 weeks. i get my cd's used though, so that saves alot of money.

ill nino - confession
soilwork - natural born chaos
spineshank - self-destructive pattern
perfect circle - 13th step
static-x - shadow zone
40 below summer - the mourning after

Morbid Angel - Heretic
Vader - Blood

Nice choices. Especially Soilwork and 40 Below Summer.

Soilwork - A Predator's Portrait
Sworn Enemy - As Real As It Gets

how is a predator's portrait, in comparison to natural born chaos or figure number five? or is it more along the lines of steel bath suicide or chainheart machine? i'm not a fan of the older soilwork stuff, so i've been debating about predator's portrait.

i'm glad 40 below summer dropped the rap metal stuff that was on the first album. i wasnt a fan of that, but the songs that didn't have the rap really shine. definitely a good band.

It's like in between, but more on the death metal side. It is a good record, but not much clean vocal work, if that's what you are into.

Great CD!

I'm still trying to get into it. Trying to get into the vocals. They're definitely different than other hardcore bands. Im used to the deep, throaty sound.

But the guy sounds a little similar to Children of Bodom, At the Gates, or As I Lay Dying. I think I will grow to like it soon. :)

I think that's why I liked it so much. It wasn't the typical "hardcore sound". They have more of a "metal" sound and that's what I'm all about. :garza:

The PX here is having a blowout on selected CDs. I've bought 33 CDs in the last week.

everything from Josh Groban to Brooks & Dunn to Celia Cruz....
& some Christian artists too. Basically anything I'd remotely want to check out, or didn't have. Got some for my kids (B'days coming up)

So far my favs are Martina McBride's newest one, and (OK, this is cheesey) Michael Bolton's "Vintage", a collection of 30's-50's standards.

Just got back with the last 11. gotta go check'em out.

$.97 apiece. no joke. all brand new.

the cd i just are betwwen the buried and me fucking sick cd very talnted and heavy, and As I Lay Dying - Frail Words Collapse good cd:fro:

Just bought another 14.

Meatloaf, Peter Frampton, Alan Jackson, Clint Black, Mark Schults, & all sorts of stuff.

The Frampton's really good. It'll take a while to get through them all.

predator's portrait is more like natural born choas and figure number 5. i'm a huge soilwork fan but their first two albums were lacking greatly compared to the genius of the last 3. pickin a fave between them is like pickin out your favorite set of tits.

if your down with the Soilwork check out some In-Flames, Opeth and Porcupine Tree if you haven't already.

Just picked up

All Out War - Condemned to Suffer
Avenged Sevenfold - Waking the Fallen

Just ordered

Iced Earth - The Glorious Burden
Zakk Wylde - Pride & Glory, Book of Shadows

Morbid Angel - Gateways to Annihilation
The Black Dahlia Murder - Unhallowed
My Ruin - The Horror of Beauty

Seven Witches - Xiled to Infinity and One

I have been looking for this disc forever.

Also, I just picked up Lamb of God's DVD Terror and Hubris

I bought Passage to the other side about a month ago and love it. Friend of mine named Eric Ragno is good friends with Jack Frost which is kind of cool. I have yet to meet him though.

Yeah I gotta find that one too. It's damned near impossible to find the real "underground" stuff here in Dayton, OH. I've got one store that has a small metal section. There is always CDNow. Best Buy of all places had that Seven Witches cd I just picked up.

Deftones - adrenaline
Linkin Park - reanimation
Linkin Park - Live in Texas
Limp Bizkit - Significant other

Yeah, yeah....i'm sure i'll be called a poser. Before you do though, I used to listen to speed metal in my teen years, and nothing but. Slayer, testament, megadeth..you name it....hated glam rock with a passion. Thought metallica could walk on water until load came out LOL

Anyways...I'm just starting to check out some of the newer rock
bands, and they're not so bad.

That's another one I can't find local.

I wasn't really looking for it. I saw it a couple times at a local music shop. I looked into the band, downloaded some samples, liked it, so I went back and bought it.

Haven't seen it anywhere else though ...

Stampin' Ground - "A New Darkness Upon Us"
As I Lay Dying - "Frail Words Collaps"
Helloween - "Treasure Chest"

Stampin' Ground - "A New Darkness

That any good? What's it sound like? I've only heard one song.

I picked up Skrape's two CDs today. "New Killer America" and "Up The Dose."

Kinda crossover/metalcore. I had probably been hearing the same song as you. I really dig the disc.

NKA is pretty badass. Up the Dose is horrid. They turned into generic melodic nu-metal.

At least the first one had some good riffs, good energy, good vocals ...

powerslave, I will look into that Stampin Ground album. Thanks man.

Damageplan - "New Found Power"
Probot - "Probot"

From Zero said:
How's Probot? I'm curious as to what Grohl can do.

On this he is only playing the drums and other instruments. I've always thought he was a pretty good drummer even though I couldn't stand Nirvana. Each song has a different singer: Lemmy, King Diamond, Max Cavelera, Lee Dorrian, Mike Dean, Cronos, Tom G Warrior, Kurt Brecht, Wino, Snake, Eric Wagner. Not to bad.

I like the new CD from The Dandy Warhols, I fergit the title. The Ryan Adams "Rock & Roll" is fun too.

kenny chesney - when the sun goes down.

i appreciate his lyrics enough to actually buy his music.

oh and live birds of prey at the end of last summer

FZ, how you like that Stampin' Ground? I love it, been listening to it consistently since I bought it. Think I'll go out tomorrow and see if can round a few new ones up myself.

From Zero and Powerslave got some good tastes.

I honestly hope no one likes any of the new Cradle or Dimmu stuff, they are horrible.

And Helloween rule, but only with Kiske.

I hear Opeth put on a great show in Chicago last week. Anyone catch it? It was supposed to have been one of their best sets. They played the first song off of My Arms; supposedly they played a lot of songs they rarely or have never played.

i have stopped purchasing cd's
now i get music dvd's
fucking awesome in 5.1
and many are concert footage

peter gabriel-growing up live
hall and oats-live by request
and chicago-live by request are my last purchases

Haven't listened to the entire thing yet, but I like it a lot. Like ... NY Hardcore meets Slayer. Good stuff.

Aziatic by AZ. How this guy is not recognised as one of the biggest things in rap is a mystery to me. He should be knighted or something just for his part on Life's a Bitch.

Nothing good at the store today. So, I did some internet shopping.

Opeth - My Arms Your Hearse
Primal Fear - History of Fear (DVD), Nuclear Fire, Jaws of Death
Stratovarius - Elements Pt. 1, Elements Pt. 2
Seven Witches - Passage to the Other Side.

I'm going to need a warehouse soon to hold all my metal.

Opeth - My Arms Your Hearse

Hell of a choice. I absolutely love the acoustic outro in the song "When." Brilliant.

Let me know how those are man. I've only heard "I Walk to my Own Song" off Part 2, and I really like it.

Opeth - Lamentations(DVD) Live at Shephard's Bush Empire 2003

First half is the lighter/accoustic stuff - excellent
Actually the first 10 songs are of this nature.

The last 4 are heavier. Could have been more for my taste, but I like the heavy shit.

There is also a section about the recording of Deliverance and Damnation.

I just downloaded 4 Opeth albums from Emusic.com

good stuff.

Let us know how you like them.

Great band, however their style is very drawn out, so many people don't get into them. They're not the type of band to make a 3-4 minute song for the radio.

A lighter alternative to Opeth, I think, is Katatonia's newer stuff. Their older stuff has the gutturals, if that's your cup of tea.

BTW, I'm bumping my Manowar thread for all you so-called metalheads to post on.

Yes. I have listened to all of it now and while I am impressed, many of the sogns are way long. It's cool because it has more of that movie sountrack/ epic feel to it, but some of the songs don't really connect IMO. I think that a few could have been cut and arranged better. So, that it flows better. Not all the songs are like that, but a few. I dunno, just my thoughts. But I do like them a lot. Very cool and fairly unique.

I just bought Iced Earth "The Glorious Burden"

Is their "sound" in this album represenative of all their other albums?

God, no!
(Heh heh, sorry, I hate their new singer)

Dimmu Borgir are amazing musicians. You should listen to their latest album a few times. Just awsome music.

And Zero and Powerslave the maiden fan(like myself), you have great taste in music, I have all the albums you talk about here, great stuff.

OK

so if I was to give these guys another chance, what is a kick ass album you'd recommend (if this album also sucks I will place Iced Earth on my "sucks" list).

thanks

I also bought Speakerbox/Love below a couple of weeks ago - After all the hype I was very dissapointed and I have'nt listened to it since.

Also finaly bought Kanye West's 'The College Dropout', which is V Good.

Simply Red - Home

I don't know, the only good song on there is Sunrise, his earlier efforts (Stars, A New Flame) were far better. I think I was just reminded why I don't buy his CDs anymore.

The last one I have of his, Blue, was the same way. I listened to it, and thought, WTF?

I'll have to listen to that one again too see if it's aged like fine wine, or went the way of vinegar.

Identity 8 - Century Media compilation
Primal Fear - Devil's Ground
Wasted Youth - Black Daze

I damn near shit myself when I saw that Wasted Youth disc. I've had a cassette copy of it for probably 10 years. Never had been able to find it until today.

Element Eighty - S/T
Life of Agony - Soul Searching Sun
Nothingface - Pacifier

Picked them all up used. Only spent $11. :) (I did trade in 2 CDs though, so I had a few bucks credit).

new stereophonics

I loved their debut album, liked some of their second album, but I have disliked everthing i've heard on the radio from them since, and for some reason I can't stand to listen to them anymore. Is the new album any better?

and when i downloaded it i found it was stereophonics
sounds like a departure from recent stuff
