WWE Superstars

or how abt botched moves- the risks are real. these guys are great stuntmen. there is always the element of risk while performing the kind of stunts that these guys do. as they keep saying on smackdown and raw-"yes this is entertainment but the hazards are real. please don't try this at home".

Yes, another risk is definately botched moves. It happened to Steve Austin in 1997 when Owen Hart messed up on a piledriver and nearly crippled him. Austin sat out for a month but then (against his doctor's sugestion) decided to comeback because he was about to get his biggest push ever (Austin vs McMahon fued-which made him millions) and figured what the hell. Austin wrestler injured for almost two years after that match and finally had surgery in late 99. Him wrestling those two years injured is basically the main reason he is not a full time wrestler now. He takes bumps every now and then and may one day wrestle again, but never at the rate he did in the 90's. Probably the worst botch to happen in the US was in 99 when Droz faced D.Lo Brown. D.Lo messed a move and now Droz (former NFL player) is in a wheelchair (Christopher Reeve style-but in better condition) for probably the rest of his life and has only recently started to get some feeling in his arms. The WWE has given him a job writing for WWE.com, which I think was a good move..I am sure he will have that job for the rest of his life. Bret Hart's career ended in 99 when Goldberg full force kicked him in the head (by accident). So yeah, accidents do happen and what is done in the ring is dangerous and is not something anyone can just get up there and do.

The one dangerous move that I used to see but don't anymore was originally done, I think, by Cowboy Bob Orton. At least he was the first one I saw do it. Here's how it went....he would lift & set his opponent up on the top rope on the turn buckle, hit him in the jaw with a couple of good hard right hands, climb to the top rope, grab under his opponent's neck with one hand while grabbing the front of his tights with the other & then flip him over backwards as they both came crashing down on the mat. And this was all done from the TOP ROPE mind you. I thought he was nuts & figured out sooner or later he or somebody else would be seriouly injured but he seemed like he did it in almost all of his matches back then. Wish I could think of what they called it but I can't. I think I actually remember Kurt Angle do it too in one of his cage matches a couple of years ago. Anybody remember that one? Since I don't see it anymore I was just wondering if it's been outlawed or something.

Just looked it up....it was called : The SuperPlex

no- they still do that though it isn't as common i suppose as it used to be. another move which i hear is dangerous is rvd's frog splash- apparently has had quite a few superstars injured though not too seriously as far as i know.

What do you guys think of Vince's announcement last night on RAW? For those that missed it. Everyone from Smackdown and Raw will come to Raw Monday. They will then draw from a lottery. Whatever number they pick determines if they go to Raw or Smackdown. That means Evolution can get split up along with tag teams. It's about time they did this

And I suppose that coming into an obvious wrestling thread where people who actually like wrestling and saying wrestling is stupid is a mensa move?

What are you going to do? Piledrive me?

Anyway avenirp, you completely missed what I was saying. Everyone is saying that the moves are real, etc. etc. And I simply said that they couldn't be, that the moves themselves were generally staged as well to be "easier" on the other guy. And yes, I know about the razor blade thing (this makes it even more stupid).

The fact that the "risks are real," makes the whole idea hilarious to me. There's no payoff! Not only are you watching a cartoony, fake-ass fight, but they could still get accidently critically injured. Now, if there's going to be a chance of injury anyway, just watch a real fucking fight and not this circus bullshit.

No "real" fighting has guys jumping off 15 foot latters onto a guy layed out over a table. The tough man stuff in my opinion is boring...that is why I do not watch "real" fighting. And it is not just about fighting--it is the whole show they give you--again, it is all about taking you out of reality for an hour or two. If you like it, fine if not that is fine too-No big deal.

hey debaser- listen up. YOU do not like WWE- that is YOUR opinion, YOUR preference. there are others that do- THEIR opinion/preference. get the point- there is no right and wrong- don't state YOUR opinion as if it is absolute truth. the fact is that some folks like to be taken out of reality- that is the idea. and having watched some of the older stuff similar to todays WWE, i can tell you that todays stuff is better packaged which makes it more watchable- i think vince mcmahon and/or his team (i don't know which) are great businessmen. and by the way, watching discovery channel does not necessarily make you einstein incarnate- some of the smartest ppl i know watch WWE just to have a little escape from reality- you don't have to think much while watching it which is quite a change when you are a network engineer like i am.

Wow, you're delusional. You'd think someone who got a chair swung in their face by a 300 lb guy would have blood streaming out a gaping wound in their face and could have to be lifelined to a hospital before bleeding to death. Instead of something that remotely resembled a papercut.

And I guess strongsmartsexy still thinks I'm bewildered with the "OMG WRESTLING IS FAKE LOL!!!1" When if you recall my original post, you'll see that I simply maintain that wrestling is stupid.

Three matchces you need to watch.

1. New Jack's leap from a fucking BALCONY where he suffers two broken legs and almost dies...how can you fake leaping from a blacony? Simple you dont..
2. Sabu+Terry Funk Barb wire match...think the barb wire isnt real? Check out Sabu's bicep at the end match's end...and how it's literaly hanging from his arm...
3. New-Jack+Mustafa vs. Two no-name fucks

One of those no-name fucks turned out to be a KID who lied about his age, was ACTUALLY CUT with a box-cutter with no apparently regard for his saftey and beaten into a bloody pulp to the point of permenant physical damage and later tried to sue ECW to no result.

Is it scripted? Sure.

Are the injuries real? Depends.

I suspect heavy HGH use by many of the wrestlers today, just look at Benoit and Cena's head.

I've allways had Cena on my list (small list) of WWE wrestlers who could be natural. He just doesn't have the fake 'bloat' look to his physique. His proportion is amazing. Of course he'd have to have good genetics and been training since he was 11-12 yrs old. He is 27 years old, so that gives him 15 years to get in his current shape.

If he fessed up to using roids once or twice in his time, I wouldn't be suprised however b/c he's very vascular. But for now, I'm going with natty.

Cena is definitely not natural bro.

yeah, like I said, I wouldn't be suprised.

EDIT:

on second thought...I'm allmost positive you are right .

Its kind of a bummer b/c my goal is to eventually have a physique like his or Jean Claude Van Damme. A bit smaller though. I don't need to have 19 inch arms, I just want to have that level of definition and at least some of their proportion that my blocky frame would allow. I've never juiced and don't really plan on juicing at this point in my life. I lurk EF b/c even though many/most do juice here, it doesn't exclude the members for providing interesting/provocative posts containing info that I could use as a natty.

Lifting has been and will remain a part of my life, so I'll see where it takes me.

I know john and he isn't natural. You should have seen him a few years ago when he was as ripped as now but 275lbs rather than 240lbs.

nonetheless, he still has an awesome physique. i think he looks better than batista overall- take a look at his calves for instance. i think he has good genetics too- batistas calves are pretty miserable compared to the rest of him.

forgive the skepticism, but do you have any pics w/ him (other than autograph signing pics or something like that) to show that you actually know him? After all, this is the internet where I could lie and say I have a physique comparable to Ronnie Coleman ;).

Honestly I don't have any pics. I'm not in the habit of getting my picture taken with my friends. I knew him before he started wrestling so he is still just John to me. You can take it at face value as I'm not going to try to prove this to you because I really don't care, I didn't say this to brag that I know him.

Randy Orton's quite impressive, but why did they make him a face so quickly after he won the world title. If I was scriptwriter, I'd probably keep him as a heel. I like him like that.

bastita wouldn't place in the top ten of a LOCAL show, let alone something like the Ironman.

Big traps and shoulders don't make a winner. His chest is shallow. His back has no thickness and it has that hideous tattoo on it. He has decent legs, way better than the Rocks and the Rock was known as having the best wheels in the sport.

The only wrestler(s) that I have seen that could have won any kind of local/state show was Luger from the late 80's before he became all stringy and lanky and Paul Roma. Jim Powers had BBing potential too.

Cena used to compete in BBing, but left. He had some AWESOME pics from his competitive days. Some internet sleuth should dig them up.

This thread is a bit dated but.... anyone checked out Chris Masters???
