Wtf is the difference between Optometrists and Opthamologists

So as part of my preparing to move on from this job position I want to get all the check up's etc that I can before leaving the company (Dental cleaning etc) - I have a vision plan and want to get a check up. What is the difference between a Optometrist and Opthamologist and which on should I be going to?

Opthamologist = has an MD degree, can prescribe drugs, do surgery, etc.

Optometrist = fits you for glasses or contacts.

To be fair, a good optometrist will spot medical problems (and recommend that you go to an opthamologist)... but he's not an MD.

Insurance plans have to pay MDs, so going to an opthamologist is sometimes a way to get insurance coverage for your vision needs even if you don't have a vision plan.

Since you do have one, a good optometrist is probably all you need.

By the way -- when it got to the point I needed bifocals, I had them prescribed by an MD, not an optometrist. It was worth it.

They had bifocals in the 50's?

I'll go ask WODIN.
