My 8 year old went in for a routine hearing test even though he had one in 03 and it showed he was fine..(he has a history of hearing problems)..Well the results today were not so good..They did a test from the tympanogram and it shows that he is flat in his left ear..So now he has to go to a pediatric ear specialist to have a more intense test done...Also did an allergy test on him which showed he suposively has no problems...Which I believe he does!!!
Any ways he is going into the hospital on July 18th to have his adnoids and tonsils removed...i am worried! He is scared beyond belief and I feel so bad for him..All he keeps saying is "9 more days mom, 9 more days"
He asked me if it was his choice and if he has to have it done....I am going to research and see what the odds are of not having them removed...This sucks!!!

My nephew had them removed at age 10 I think...it was pretty routine and didn't cause any problems at all. He has hearing problems as well, and it helped him out quite a bit.

well that is good to hear..I mean I know it will help him a lot as far as talking nasally and snoring like a grown man at night, also the specalist said that he has sleep apnea as a result to the tonsil/adnoid...So I know getting it done is for the best, I just cannot help but feel bad for him.

Hope that all goes well and he is feeling better soon. It sucks when your kids aren't well. If only we could take their pain onto ourselves.

well they say that getting the crap removed will help his adhd or whatever. so that is a plus...
But yet again today I sat in an dental office for 2 hours. He had to get dental work done..he was a trooper..Hell they gave him the novacaine and he did not even know it was a needle until on the ride home i told him...He got two crowns, a protective sheild put on for his enamel and of course the novacaine..he still needs to go back for a cleaning and to check up and see if he needs braces and 1 more crown..But shit, I felt like I was there all day long. The thing of it all is that I knew he had 1 cavity but I cannot see the other two. i guess they were under the teeth and were affecting the "pulp"..Guess the only way to see it was through the xrays...I feel bad for the poor kid if it is not one thing it is another. But I was so proud of him today..He has silver teeth now(pre molar) so he thinks he's the shit..Lol

I had my adnoids removed when I was about 6-7 years old. I had really bad ear infections all the time and had to get tubes in my ears and I also was very nasaly when I talked. I remember after it was done my hearing was so good it almost hurt my ears when the toilet flushed.

I did not think that they did that anymore

Did you get a second opinion?

If two docs say yes, usually you can feel ok about it. If you are bothered, get a second opinion! You dont have anything to lose. :)

See that is what happened to my son..He had tubes placed when he was about 2 years old. They told me that he was tone deaf, and now he has speech issues as a result. They wanted to take them out back then, but we ended up moving and the military ins said no...they did not want to risk it because he was so little..Well they tested his ears in 03 and said he was great, no hearing loss..
I took him and they say there is no way that he could have been tone deaf, nothing, and now hearing probs again!!!
They say getting them removed will improve his ears about 60 % not to mention he will not snore, will not have apnea, will not speak nasally, and may not have an adhd diagnosis..At first I really was going to say no, but I think it will benefit him a great deal

I remember having the infections and having to put drops in my ears all the time and I hated it. I could hear my heartbeat rumbling and making a grinding noise in my ears and eventually getting a bad headache but after the tubes and removal I was waaaay better. I really feel for you little guy and I think this will help him out.

I had tubes as a kid.
When the Dr's look in my right ear they say "oh your had tubes"
When they get to my left ear they usually say "OMG"
I have a ton of scar tissue.
My hearing is horrible! :(
