Wow, do I miss New York...

..and i've decided i'm moving back up here in 1-2 years.

My weekend get away to NYC then the hamptons made me really realize how much i miss the city, especially in the summertime. There really is no other place like it, anywhere. Fuck florida...ideal situation is a house up north w. a vacation spot in miami.

normal, real people(this is the biggest thing)....
tough/strong headed girls
always something to do
great public transportation
just an amazing vibe, that i completey forget about

i was driving into Soho after i flew into Newark and it hit me all of a sudden.

you ever go to a city and your personality changes? when i'm here or in NJ, i'm more warm, friendly, real..because i can relate to everyone i guess.

now if i can only get past the $2500 a month for a 500 sq foot studio in Manhatten...

NY always had the opposite effect on me. Pretty much why I bolted the day I graduated high school and never looked back. My current company could offer to double my salary and I still wouldn't go back.

Kinda interesting how subjective that all is.

Don't get me wrong...I spent 12 years of my life between various places in Manhattan and Long Island and a part of me will always have a connection to the area. It's just where you go back and think "home," I lived there 12 years and never got that feeling. I guess I'm a closet hick lololololol

interesting. well, long island is one thing. i'm not a huge fan of long island, although we have alot of family out here (aside from the hamptons, and even then...i can only tolerate it for a weekend or so)

but as far as manhattan goes, it's just so...me. i'm a city boy, even when i lived in the suburbs, and i was raised on the manhattan mentality/style.
one of my favorite times in my life when i was working right by wall street for my brother in law's subprime bank, taking the train in everyday, eating and going out for drinks afterwards.. the whole everyday experience and routine was just awesome

took me a few years away to really realize though

yes you must be a closet hick lol

I'm just too laid back for city life. And too active. And too friendly.

I need easy (daily) access to outdoor activities, I need trees and grass, and stars. When I was a kid in manhattan I practically lived in central park. My favorite thing to do there was climb the rocks. They don't quite cut it for me anymore lol. I also can't deal with the crowds...I need my personal space. Biggest thing, though, is I'm the kind of person who smiles and says hi, looks someone directly in the eye, says excuse me, please, and thank you. Sir and Ma'am. I was raised on southern manners and from years of experience I can say that plus my preference for fresh non piss smelling air and a slower pace of life made for a bad match between me and Manhattan.

But yeah, I'm still kind of a hick. :qt:

see....i think that's bullshit. the whole NYC isn't friendly thing. personally, i think people are more friendly in NY than in alot of places.. especially post 9.11.
People in NY are WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more friendly htan people in fort lauderdale, or in miami. It's not even a comparison
And usually when new yorkers are friendly, they're genuine as opposed to being nice just for nices sake (compared to the fakeness alot of southerns have). the only thing about new york is the lack of patience/bluntness that alot of people have, and the fact most people are in a rush. that is sometimes perceived as "being rude" but i think it's just being real and not wanting to waste time.

maybe it's just me, but people in NY are very friendly to me and vice versa. might just be my aura

of course my view might be a little jaded.

considering i spent most of the time with my sister and her husband at their 4 million dollar house in Southampton...he let me drive his masserati around town. and when i was in the city, i was staying in their brownstone. true socialite lifestyle..but it's cool because everyone they associate with is very real and down to earth, and so are both sides of the family. i also might be singing a different tune when it's snowing from november to march

i need to save major $$$ before i make a move back

too active for ny?

i find people here to be terribly unfriendly. whenever i walk by, hardly anyone bows to me or addresses me by my proper/royal name.
