Wow, do I miss New York...

Im a southerner born and raised currently in austin, texas but visited NYC last summer and holy shit it was awesome. so much so that I am seriously going to try to make a move there for a job when I graduate next may. I never even been north of Carolinas until I went to nyc so talk about culture shock but in a good way. calveless is right about the NYC rep about rudeness, I didnt really see any rudeness but people are in a hurry and are direct with no bullshit.

too active for ny?

i find people here to be terribly unfriendly. whenever i walk by, hardly anyone bows to me or addresses me by my proper/royal name.

lol. Yeah, I'd venture to say NY has one of the most active lifestyles of any major city in the country. Now, if by "active" you mean "I need to have a mountain 2 feet from my apartment door" or "there needs to be hundreds of miles of empty space around me at all times", then yeah, NY ain't the place. But if you put a teensy bit of effort into it, there are a TON of activities, groups and venues with a HUGE range of options around.

And we went thru this whole NYC people are rude stereotype thing. They are not rude, as a matter of fact, they are quite nice and friendly. Think about it - there are more people in NYC that are forced to share a tiny amount of natural and man-mande resources than in 99% of the rest of the country (these numbers are not scientific) - that place would be CHAOS if people weren't friendly.

You can't mistake "I have a goal and I'm going to achieve it, goddamnit" for being rude. They got shit to do and it's gonna get done. Nothing wrong with that.

i don't know. i asked this person for a handjob on the subway the other day. he was not being cooperative at ALL. so what if he's in a wheelchair? his hands still work.

He must be from Massachusetts

I've met quite a few people who have moved from NY/NJ to Colorado and most of them got tired of the rat race. Everyone is trying to be a /somebody/. All work and little play.

Active, meaning physically active. Dancing in clubs don't count. Austin was a great "city" for me because it really catered to the kind of lifestyle I loved. Watersports, hiking, running, mountain biking, etc. Things like that.

Calveless (see I spelled it right that time),

NYers aren't "rude" per se. Just not...I don't know. See when I'm nice, it's not fake. I'm just a genuinely pleasant person. I'll strike up a conversation with a stranger. That's normal down south, but in NY my friends used to harass me for it. In my experience - note that I am not generalizing everyone, just speaking from what I have seen - people from the area I was born are just....more genuinely warm people. NYers have their own brand of nice, but it felt abrasive a lot of the time. Again, I can only speak for myself.

[flirt]nefz, i'll show you a wholly different brand of nice. if you read my damned posts. bitch.
[/flirt]

anyway, although i'm not active beyond my workouts, i might as well vouch for whatever activities the NYC area has available. dude, clubbin? is that all you're crediting NY for when it comes to an active lifestyle?
