Assume both amounts are more than enough to live on. Would you rather be:

- overpaid to perform a job that doesn't fully utilize your current skillset, to the point of boredom at work. In other words your employer is paying you for talent you have but isn't utilized currently.

- underpaid to perform a job that is a bit beyond your current skillset, content in the knowledge that you're learning things that will bring even greater pay later on.

always take the maximum that the market will bear. it's your obligation to negotiate for the most you can, and for the employer to negotiate for the least they can secure your services. otherwise you are delinquent in doing your part to create efficient markets in our home country. always negotiate offers. when you don't the employer chucles at their victory. when you do, you can tell them to feel secure in the knowledge that every negotiation is important to you, and you'll fight just as hard for their company as you do for yourself.

I wouldn't want to be in a job wherein I stopped learning anything and became stagnant.

Them business folk have some good thoughts, too. I think it's a pretty open question with no credited response without futher generalities.

over paid of course... LOL

I'm underpaid now though.
