..to a place strictly for a job??

I have an offer right now......pays about 65% more than my current job....management position in a new company...excellent benefits etc.

THe locale is not my favorite...but the opportunity is there.

Thoughts?

A lot of factors to consider.

I could make double what I do currently in other areas, but then the cost of living would be tripled, so I'd basically be making less in the total scheme of things.

Also gotta consider the new area's attractions, your hobbies, will you know anyone there, etc.

Yep...I'd move. Is the cost of living the same for the area? 65% could get eaten up fast if it's an expensive area to live in.

always a tough choice, S.....staying here, close to my family and friends, has cost me dearly in terms of promotion potential and income.

perhaps it's different here in new orleans, families seem to be more close-knit than in other areas of the country.

if i had left town, moved to the frozen north and became a yankee (ugh), i "cudda been a contenda".

instead, i am here, still surrounded my family, friends, and the unique nawlinz culture, making a decent, but not outstanding living, awaiting early retirement in 10 years or so.

it's a hard choice to make.

yup.

you won't know how you like the area until you live there...

go for it... 65% increase is awesome.

true I suppose.

VERY small town....but its 20 miles from a HUGE lake, so that I can live with

If single or Married with no kids and my wife was OK with it? -- Yes
If married with school age kids -- Probably not, unless I was working up the corp ladder

Depends, if its near where I live then NO dont' take it ;)

Otherwise check it out, you never know until you try. If you dont' like it then you can look for somethign else.

I would have a hard time leaving Toronto but if was for a job in broadcasting I would in a heartbeat.

shadow, do you have a family? if not, go for it and move... 10% less cost of living, plus a 65% pay increase.... that's an excellent bargain. i'd do it if i were you.

if you have a family, consult with them first -- do what's best. research the crime rates in this neighborhood, sex offender checklist, etc...

sounds like it might not be a bad deal for you

10% LESS to live there, make 65% MORE
lake nearby, new women to meet
I would do it

65% pay increase, 10% less COL...I'd be outta here.

If the schools offered were good (in my case) I would move to Timbuktu... I can't wait to move away from where I am now.

Anywhere but here....

Just a thought, How far away are you moving? Different state? A managerial position with people from a different state that have different attitudes and accustomed to different things/paces can be a slap in the face.

Not downing Florida by this ONE experience I had but ... I went to a deli type store and asked for a sandwich, the guy said he did`nt have all the ingredients for it but would go GET THEM AND COME BACK WHILE I WAITED. LMAO No freaking way I was gonna wait for someone to drive somewhere and buy stuff for a sandwich, come back and make it for me. lol

anyway just explaining different lifestyles. If it`s not a far move, please disregard above statement. lol

its intra-state in distance...in culture its the other side of the world.

Im thinking work there one year-2 years...save enough to move to NY and chase acting

I would do it, Every little thing that goes wrong at your current job you`d be saying "Why did`nt I leave..." lol You may LOVE it there, then the money would be a bonus instead of the REASON it is now.

45,000 acre Lake Eufaula on the Ga/Bama border.

Ga/Bama?

I would rather suck a horses cock until its scull collapses.

I bought air filters for my house from Alabama. The gentleman who answered the phone was most courteous.

He loved it when I said "Roll Tide" lol

I don't think I could at this point. As much as money is appealing, I know I'm miserable without my family. I have too much tying me to where I am. But if I didn't have to much here, I'd be up for the adventure of running off. :)

Wow ...sounds like quite an opportunity!! Congratulations! :)

My guess is that you probably already had your mind made up before you posted ths thread... Follow your heart, and avoid listening to the doubts.

Money is a great motivator in almost all aspects, but I guess things to consider are whether or not you are gaining personal satisfaction in your current situation and whether or not this move is going to get you closer to the "goal" you have in your mind for yourself. If you decide against the move, will there be a lot of regrets?

And the other big aspect I can see is the "comfort" factor. This would include family, friends, co-workers, etc. If married is your spouse going to have to give up work, kids going to have to break friendships, are you connected closely to your community? These are items that a pricetag cannot be attached to, but in the end, these factors count a tremendous amount in the happiness of life and I believe that should also ultimately be a major determining factor in the success of any spur of the moment decision.
I guess that is my 2 cents...
Good Luck to You!! :)
