I work construction year round. its awesome shoveling mortar and tossing 60lb cinder blocks all day when its 90 degrees. But it pays soo good and I have basically 100% insurance. So I suck it up.

Luckily at this company I am the head laborer/foreman so all the mexicans have to tend teh masons while I just set up the hydraulic scaffolds and drive the lull.

scaffolds like these www.masonrymagazine.com/5-07/mastclimbers.html

and the machine to pick up and move http://tripleeequip.com/lull 644 006.jpg

I delivered wine and Italian foods to the nastiest, rattiest cellars of Boston for multiple summers in the 100 degree heat :)

Wheat field worker. Paid $5.35 an hour. Basically spent the whole day walking up and down the wheat fields looking for things that didn't belong. The company grew seed for commercial use so we maintained the test plots. We averaged 13 miles a day and the average daily temp was about 98. I still cringe everytime I see a wheat field.

Cheers,

Yea I couldn't believe that they trusted a 15 yr old to do this after showing me a couple times! I guess I couldn't be worse than the other guys since they were all drunk or on drugs all the time. I'll never let my kids on a fair ride!!

Same here! While it was still green my brother and I would walk the fields with with a machete and lop off the heads of volunteer rye. We drove the combines and shit too for harvest. That part wasnt bad, it was kinda fun. It was the bucking straw bales a few weeks after harvest that sucked ass.....

Your from CO right?

Bailing hay for two bucks an hour in the 1980's. Anyone that has worked the loft in 100 degree temps can testify it's the suck.

Yeah, the loft only traps the hot air, and your lucky to have any breeze...

My Summers were the suck in high school..7:00AM-1:00PM two a day practices. Go home and shower..3:00-dark bailing hay. Get home, eat and shower..go to bed and repeat. At least it taught me that I didn't want to do manual labor for a living.

Damn I forgot but the job I hated the most was working on a shrimp boat! I just hated the not sleeping, getting my hands all fukked up from shrimp/crabs, being out in the gulf while my friends were partying, getting saltwater on you and getting rash on your legs, and my boss was a cawk!!

Grew up about 150 miles as the crow files northeast....I miss the wheat fields and all the farmers. Too many people don't have a clue about what a hard days work is out here....

they are and they are signed up with the union so they get paid $35 per hour. I get 10% over that for being the foreman and get to tell them "ondelay!!!!" "mas rapido!!!!" There aren't scabs on commercial work.

My best summer job: worked the door at a bar in Del Mar California on Solana beach, at the time it was the hottest place in southern cal. I let the porn stars in first, always.

I picked up bodys for the dade county coroners office for awhile the fresh ones were ok its those ones where there all decomposed that really sucked

Not a bad summer job, but last year I dissected a body for the Physician's Assistant program here at our school. Free air conditioning in the desert. The only bad thing was it was about a 220 lbs lady....Spent the first couple days slicing one inch layers of fat off her back. But still, appreciated the fact that she donated.

I worked for a Douche who owned a hotel in The Hamptons. He marketed the place quite well, but he sure as hell ripped off his customers. Sky high prices for rooms that sucked. What a fat mean miserable bully and I will never forget the day I told him to take his job and stuff it up his Ass!!!! The look of shock on his face when he realised he was approaching Labor Day with no staff was priceless!!! I sent him a postcard from Vegas as well!!!

Thats the thing Chris and Spywizard, you have to hate those people. I mean, I met so many fantastic people when I was there. Young couples and older couples alike who had worked their guts out in NYC all year, booked a few well deserved days in The Hamptons, rented a car, drove 2.5 hours, and found themselves paying $200 per night for a room with noisy Air conditioning, dull interior decor, TV's that were 10 years old, and a driving net with a God Damn bar at the back of it!!! I'm not making it up! He put in a driving net for golfers to practice in. If you hit the ball hard and high enough it drove the net right back and it touched off a bar that the idiot put there to keep it upright!!! It would only take one shot to hit the bar once and its (the golf ball) right back at you!!!

I just couldn't take it anymore and told him I was off. I couldn't care less about him, but anytime I typed in the name of the hotel on tripadvisor for years after (whenever I was bored), I saw that nothing changed. Total loser. But, I felt so much for the custoemrs who were cheated out of their hard earned cash.

when i was 12-14 i worked for the farmer down the street from my dad bailing hay and shoveling cow shit out of the concrete stalls. I also did other misc farm work.
