Work holiday party...

mine was tonight I went for a couple hours had dinner and two drinks. Now I am in sales and work for a large corporation that has a work hard play hard type of culture. Now out with friends and what not I would party my ass of especially if it was an open bar but this sort of thing it just feels wrong. Plus I am always thinking about getting ahead and going further with my career there. Anywho my Q to you all is what is your approach to the office functions?
 
hrm....I go sometimes. But thats because they are usually not out anywhere....If so its close, quick, and early. We used to cath a beer and what not. I think it made work easier. But the catch is there were not many if any females with us. So Im assuming if there were some cuties there I would have hit on them. Now if that happened then it may be wierd when shit hits the fan.......So its a fine line. But you might not want to be that work group you see out in the bar or what not and thats out of place drinking a hot beer not doing anything. So if your going to go, go and have some fucking fun, just dont get embarrasing drunk unless you can and still be the most sober one.....

Is that what your were wondering ??? Lol........

I work corporate.. i can smooze during office hours..

anythin else can be done at outside functions not internal ones

Internal functions are equally as important as it shows a pride in where you work by showing up and it gives you chances to rub elbows with VP's and heads of other departments your not in. It is all about networking.

Different philophies (sp)

I Work for a japanese company..

Everything is very different from anywhere i have ever been..My company is global and the president knows who i am, but going or not going won't affect my career.
 
I go all out at mine. I've had VP's come up to me at the bar and shake my hand for being kind of crazy. they love it where I work. I really should never leave cause I'd be crucified elsewhere.

Good point my company is American owned so the culture is a bit diffrent. I also went cause of the door prizes pretty sweet when you work in the tech industry. ;)

What did you win?

I haven't gone to mine for the past few years. The in laws family Christmas party is the same day. So you guessed it...I hide out in the gym or my home office and pretend that I"m not around.

I went to mine. First time at the new job. I had about 5-6 glasses of wine. Danced. I had someone ask me yesterday how "lit u p" I was at the party because when we were on the floor I was yelling "charlie brown!" and shit. how embarrassing.

normally I sit in my cube and dont say shit to anyone.

I'm going to a friends for the purpose you mention this saturday for the purpose you mention networking.. to bad i gotta help out at my sisters work kids xmas party at 9am the next freakin day

I go about 1/3 of the time. I'm never gonna be the one to hob nob or kiss ass at business functions. The Exec's of my company love me because anyways because I give it to them straight. they also hear about my adventures with some of the women in our office building with other companies. But holiday parties have a better chance of backfiring than helping.
 
I disagree - I think that they are a great way to move forward in a company. I was a mere sales rep in my company, I did quite well, and then approached the CEO of the company at the bar, talked to him for about 20 minutes about the need for a country level sales manager in area, etc.... 3 days later he called me personally and promoted me.

As long as you don't get too trashed, and always remember that you are at work at one of these functions, you'll be fine.

I had a little too much fun last year. This year i'm going, but gonna have dinner and a glass or two of wine and get out of there. I HAVE to go this year so that I can make up for last year by being sober. lol
 
rub elbows, exchange pleasantries and leave. I`ll party with my friends and work w/ my co-workers.

remember to bring stories of those jokes up at work later as convo material with lifeless losers
say that youre going home at 12 with the rest of them, then go out to your usual haunts till 5, rage.

I avoid them like the black plague unless food is involved then I eat and run.

Well how is t-dot this time of year?

We are still pretty busy at work so it may be summer before it happens, besides then you can wear a sundress, I love those things.

We are normally pretty slow in July (at least the last four years) so that may work pretty well.

Sweet start saving this meal has been a long time coming :chomp:

BTW last week I DLed for the first time in 6 months got 185 for 6 but mofo my back was in pain after that!

i love going to our annual christmas party. everyone gets wasted and it seems i always end up banging some woman who up till that point has either never talked to me or has always acted as if she hated me. i love that shit.
