Wondering if something I did tonight was even worth it (DDing)

i once had to call the cops on my own (ex) husband after he wrestled the car keys from me and proceeded to attempt to drive to meet his friends at a bar 5 towns away. he had already consumed a 6 pack and 1/2 bottle of vodka. his eyes were droopy and crossing and his words were slurred. you know the deal. totally wasted but intent on doing what he wanted.
so before he walked out the door, i told him that if he left, i was going to immediately call the cops. i think i repeated this about 12 times hoping he would come to his sense (LMAO!)
i was on the phone with the PD before he had even backed out of the parking lot. luckily they caught him right as he was about to get onto the highway. he blew a .16 which was 2 times the legal limit.
i couldnt live with myself knowing he was drunk driving. what if he had killed somoene and i did nothing to try to stop it?
i think you did the right thing Fred, because that could have been the night the drunk dude killed himself or some0ne else and you had the power to actually intervene. regardless of whether you actually changed his behavior for the future.

the ex still doesnt have a valild drivers license because he never cooperated with the courts for his DUI. this happened 10 yrs ago and Im pretty sure he still blames me but i dont give a fuck. can you believe he actually called me from jail that night asking me to come bail him out???lmaoooooo i told him to call someone else.

I can't believe you did that
I'd kill my wife

think of it this way, if your wife was wasted, slurring and eyes crossed would you let her get behind the wheel to drive on the highway to a town 25 mins away to meet her friends at a bar?

bahh, that wasnt my first course of action. i had been hiding the keys in my pocket but the dude @ 6' tall and 250 lbs didnt have a hard time muscling the keys from me.

also, i think of me calling the cops as more of his choice than mine. i did warn him.

I was sitting in my truck texting to waste time after going out all night, and I noticed a super drunk guy stumbling through the parking lot with the watchful eye of the Aurora CO police following him with a cruiser as he walked through the parking lot. He stopped at my truck and sat beside it while the cops again drove by. I told him to get in my fucking truck and that he wasnt driving or I'd be the one directing the cops to pull him over. I ended up giving him a ride home because it was only a few miles outside of where I was going anyways. At the time I thought I was saving him a DUI and possibly injury to someone from him driving impaired, but I'm guessing he'll just do it again tomorrow or the next day.

I have little sympathy for that kind of behavior, but admittedly I've driven not sober before. A long time ago a good friend of mine from high school drove drunk and killed himself as well as taking out the family in the car he hit.

Since then I've given countless rides home to people(some I didn't know), but every time I wonder if it will actually change their behavior or if it's just pissing in the wind.

I always wait in the parking lot, and offer rides to drunk FEMALES!!!!

But, whatever floats your boat.
