Women, serious question.

I was going to get my girlfriend a designer purse for her birthday, but I'm concerned.

For one, I think I know her style, but when it comes to buying something this expensive I better have it 100% right.

Also, she's not one for flashy stuff, but I thought it'd be cool to get her something like the oh so trendy Louie Vuitton handbag.

Bad idea? Should I just play it safe and look for something else?

You are geigh... everyone agrees...

On the upside you can hit highintensity with the handbag when you fight him...

whatever you do..dont do what i did...i bought her a bootleg Louie Vuitton from some puerto rican kid down the block....turns out the handle is much darker on the real ones and she noticed right away...i almost had to fight him and his 10 cousins that lived in his one bedroom apartment to get my money back.

Dooney and Bourke. They are beautiful, a lot of different styles to suite different women, and very popular. Prices start probably just under $100. Any of the nicer mall stores will carry them, i.e. Parisian's.

And you need to talk to my bf. I like your thinking.

Louie Vuitton handbags are too flashy for me.

I carry the new Coach styles. I just got one at Bloomingdales and love it.

They are all nice bags. If you match one to her personality and lifestyle, she should be thrilled ;)

I do know her style, its just a question of whether or not she's gonna think I'm an idiot for buying such and expensive gift... she's not much of a brand whore, but everyone enjoys something a little trendy from time to time ya know?

Fuck though, the prices on some of this stuff is outrageous.. I could get her some nice jewlery for the same price and it will never go out of style.

I can't beleive people spend that kind of money on shit like that.

I'm not cheap but any chick that expects me to spend that much money on a friggin purse is out the door.

A Louie Vuitton handbag sounds dam good to me! However if is not her typical style I would make sure you can return or exchange it.

well the nice thing is that she does NOT expect it at all.. its a treat, a gift, something special for a special occasion...

she'd be just as happy with me getting her a $20 wallet and a nice sweatshirt from her college that she has been asking for.. its really not about the cost at all with her which is very nice and refreshing... especially after seeing what some of the gold diggers on here expect.

I love purses so I know I would be thrilled to death if a guy bought me a handbag. lol. :) It doesn't necessarily have to be really expensive for me either, but I don't think she is going to blow a gasket. It's really thoughtful of you to buy something for her that you don't necessarily like just because you know it will please her. :)

The Dooney and Bourke do look very nice, but I've never seen anything under $100 by them... more like $150.

Give me your bf's email, i'll drop the hint ;)

I just gave Louie Vuitton as an example because I know they are the hot thing right now... there are SOOOOOOOO many different designer brands I don't know what is "cool" and what is not.. many look nice..others by the same brand look tacky (in my opinion).

Maybe I need AAP's help.

That's cool... I just had a flashback of my ex.

Most materialistic bitch ever. Very warped sense of money=love.

LV bag is approx $500, some go up to $3K. Maybe take her out of town for a long weekend or something....buying 'things' is tacky.

Its expensive yes, and we are already going out of town for her birthday weekend.. and it will cost a lot more then $500.

I don't think buying things is neccsarily tacky, these are things that I can't see her buying for herself, but enjoying if someone else were to get it.

I'm the same way, I never buy myself certain things, but I love getting them as gifts.

Exactly. It's not the cost of something is important. The fact that you putting thought into it and trying to please her means more than anything could.

Hey Lestaty!!

My advice, if you are set on a bag, you are in the right direction, coach or a Dooney and Bourke. I don't really like Dooney and Bourke because of the stupid duck on the front. But they are very pretty. I have an old one in my closet. Coach bags are so nice too. If you are going to get her a bag, keep it simple. Do not get her some wacky looking bag. One nice solid color with a matching trim is perfect, classic and should go with everything.

Now, If I were a guy....I would get my girl some pretty peice of jewlery with our birthstones in it. That's something she can always wear. I think personally she would appreciate it more.

hey mang, you're talking to a guy that bought his g/f a $20K bracelet when she finished rehab. ...

so sometimes my advice is off.

Having said that, bags be tacky, yo.

The fact that you want to surprise her w/ a gift is nice...very sweet of you. Louis Vuitton purses are very nice - but then again, so are MANY others. Louis Vuitton is very expensive & being that she's not very materialistic, I would think she'd be just as happy w/ anything else. Maybe, you can go out & get a nice Guess bag - which is much cheaper than Louis Vuitton! Coach is nice too - but you'll want to get her something original 'cause there are a lot of Coach bags out there!!! :qt:

They have a few clutches (small bags, no straps) for $89.95. They have such a wide range of styles it's a "cant miss" designer. And yes, most of their bags do start around $140.

Uh can you tell I really want one? LOL

Ever look on Ebay? I've gotten some great (and authentic) brand new name brand stuff - Kate Spade and Coach bags, David Yurman jewelry, Gucci shoes, etc. You have to be patient though. Always check the "completed items" section of whatever you're looking for to get an idea what things generally go for, and also to see if it's the type of thing that comes up for auction regularly. Then I like to bid on the low side to try for a bargain, unless it's something one of a kind.

I totally agree with Flexy & Starfish.

You can never go wrong with a COACH bag and with their wide range of style you can find something to make anyone happy.

:rainbow:

You should see my bag armoire... :verygood:

Maybe I shouldnt mention this but.....I have an entire walkin closet devoted to just bags and shoes. Sucker is slam full. But I should add it's got stuff in it from when I was in the 8th grade (age 14). I take really good care of my stuff and it's ohhhhhhh so hard to let it go.

anya = clinically insane.

I think spending $500 on a purse is insane, but I realize I spend equal amounts of money on equally rediculious things. IF it makes your girl happy, then go for it...I'd rather get an Ipod or something though. :)

Anya's cool as hell.

I would totally have to have hang with the girls if she were local.

That said - I could say that about al lot of the females here.

Oh honey, Target does indeed have some super cute bags, dont they? 95% of my bags were under $40. Smurf, I'm assuming you have a Marshall's in your area, right? They are a fantastic place to catch designer bags at giantoid discounts. Definitely check it out.

Holy shit I'm gettin' fevered thinking about it. Anya needs some retail therapy.

I get compliments on the cute bags I get from Target ($5.00) all the time.

Call me crazy, but if my guy spent more than $50 USD for a handbag (for me that is LOL), I'd hit him on the head with it. I don't see the need to spend a ton of money on something that will "hold my stuff".

I'm with you. Target has some super cute stuff and so does Wal-Mart (especially flip-flops). lol. I don't spend a whole lot on a lot of my stuff, which is good because I can accumulate so much, lol.
