Interesting. I have no idea what the Chef is talking about.

For one, I would stop looking. Love comes when you least expect it.

If it doesnt come to me by the time I'm 41, I'm just gonna get a foreign bride. Might as well enjoy good sex. That's my time frame and I'm sticking with it.

Also, because you are looking

Actually I'm not. I was hoping that she would be a gift from God. I did meet one recently and it appeared that it might be for real, but there is much distance between us and I think she drinks too much. It's not over yet, but I doubt it's gonna work.

Disclaimer: Please don't take this the wrong way.

We attract what we feel. Having that attitude will only attract women that are just as desperate. I don't forsee happiness in a relationship based on desperation.

There is someone for you out there. That person is not going to come into your life right away. Also there is no guarantee that when she does, she will be in your life forever. Sometimes there are circumstances not under our control that causes us to seperate with the one we love.

'True love is hard to find' is a great song by Toots and the Maytalls.

Also, my brother, I am 41 and i just recently found a love that is beyond the scope of my lifes experience. Never, and mean NEVER, give up on love.

If I were desperate, I could settle for no less than 150 women right here close to me. I want the real thing. Like I said, If I don't get it, I'm just gonna buy one. Us men have that option.

I didn't mean you in particular. But it always seems to find you when you are not looking and sometimes at the worst possible times. But my first response is the real answer - because it is worth it. It is worth all the trouble, and pain, and hurt, and conflict, and drama and waiting.

There is no true love - we create this concept in our head of what we think true love is and it becomes something that is no longer real.

Love is tolerance ultimately and the package that that tolerance comes in is what varies and we need to find the package that we can live with and functions properly with our baggage.

So, don't over think it.

Love is like cooking.
"true love" is like baking.

If you've done a lot of both - you'll get that.

Biteme, don't give up on love. It will come into your life. When it does, hopefully you will be ready to accept it.

I agree with KB, it is worth it.

It would be cool if you could get a russian bride for a wedding gift, then it really wouldn't matter how long they stayed.

Same difference. I just get another one. And I'll trade them before they trade me more than likely. So there. I'll wait right at 2 years and 11 months and then send them back and get another one.

Because true love would be the last piece of the unknown equation signifying the end of the universe. A cataclysmic big crunch destroying all and everything as the universe and all of creation reverts back to the singularity from whence the big bang occurred and God becomes whole. To find true love and accept would be selfish as it would end it all for everyone and everything. If you do indeed find it, you must reject for all of mankind and everyone and everything in the universe.

Ah, you mean baking sicky sweety things like cakes. feh. i am in aggreement.

For me, true love is baking a crusty, chewey free form loaf of of double sourdough. You are making something sublime out of simple ingredients. No fussy shit here, you are combining the most basic of things to make a gift that is greater than the sum of its parts. That last part is critical. If you fuss over it too much, it becomes pedestrian and rigid (even though in many cases rigid is wonderful... ;) )

You blend them, let them feed off each other, rise and fall, rise and fall, then finally when its found its groove of growth/dormancy/decay/repeat you commit it to the oven and it reaches its final, glorious, soul satisfying state. Is it perfect? Hell no, if it was, you wouldnt want it so badly, it would hold no mystery, no nuance, no unexpected pleasures. You eat of it either sparingly or revenously: each time you tear off a piece its different, unique, you unveil something new and rich.

The recipe never changes, yet the product of your labors is always new.

.. you know what I mean.

I'm a bargain shopper. I've got connections. Women cannot own me. THey never have and never will. There are a few good ones out there, but not many. Well I take that back, my first gf did own me. I cried like a child, but now I'm as tough as nails as a result of being through that more than once.

Find the strength to cry and wail like a banshee at a shattered heart, find the mettle to not fear it, find the will to risk the agony of a heart torn assunder: and you will find that love.

Forgo all that stuff? Remain hard and closed and 'in control'? It won't let you find it.

Agreed.

You will only attract women just as bitter and have the desire to be in control.

You need to be comfortable & completely honest with who you are. Don't fear being vulnerable. Don't fear taking a chance and letting someone into your heart.

She just called me. I think the 13 year age difference is too much. She isn't settled down the way I am.

I won't be expecting love at that point, so they will get what they want and I will get what I want. And, btw, they are not all scammers. I know people that are married to them. One of my best friends for one.

Velvett is so right...

There is no such thing as true love. True love is when you find someone that fits into your lifestyle and your ideals of "perfection" the best.

If you build your life around your own dreams and desires, and find complete happiness in yourself, you will find your perfect partner. But don't hold off on your life, waiting to find another that is going to make you happy.

Just my 2 cents....:)

true love pops up when you least expect it, don't go looking for it as you will be dissappointed.

WAIT A MINUTE!! You can order food there??

I prefer the upstairs better. I think my ex was freaked out that the manager knew me (I went there before w/ a group of people I know), so we never went back.

Oh yes you can. Makes a great place to take male clients when they come to sell us equipment for our job. Negotiations go so much easier.

Its a great place to take female clients like me. The first time I went there these sales reps took me and another female paralegal. They supplied the Dollar Bills and paid for our drinks. It was wild. I had so much fun.

Now that I know you can order food, I have to find another reason to go back.

Yeah, i can just barely read the menu. Sometimes, my monosyllbilic vocabulary gets in the way. I have found that just pointing to the menu item and grunting gets the point across well enough :verygood:

I think it's rare. I think it's easy for two people to meet and hang out and like the idea of being in love and wind up loving each other over time.

I've only FELL in love once. No thinking, wasn't looking for it, no wondering. I just fell and all of the sudden I was completely head over heels. Completely amazing. I had no idea that was possible.

I'm not sure why it's so uncommon. Maybe because it's not just the right two people, but it has to be the right two people at just the right moment when they're both completely raw and honest about who they are and what they want. But once you have it, you'll go through absolute hell to keep it if it's the real deal.

Because people keep thinking about what they should be getting from their partner which would constitute true love, instead of about what they should be doing for their partner. Both are waiting for the other to get out of their shell

I think this is an old wives tell. You have to make yourself available to increase your chances of finding the right particular one for you. If you never get out, it will not happen.

ahh, never knew that one...just buy me a new bike and I'll say I love her forever.

Off for a nice day!

I guess this is one area in my life that came rather easily. I'm not sure if I fall in love to easy or I have just been really lucky.

From my relationship experience and watching others failure, all 3 of my girlfriends (including my wife) have been friends of mine first. I knew me first girlfriend for a year or so before we got together. It was my first relationship so I think puppy love kicked in. We were together for 3.5 years or pretty much all of high school.

The next girl who I admit may have been a rebound, started a couple months after I dumped my first girlfriend. I had known this girl though since 2nd grade so we already knew a lot about each other. Everything was going great with her for the 6 months we were together. We did everything together. I loved her but wasn't necessarily in love with her.

Then came my wife. She had a BF and I had a GF at the time we met. She came looking for a job at the restaurant I worked at. Still to this day, I'm not sure why I convinced my boss to hire her. I had no intention of getting with her since I was badly burned by my first girlfriend when it came to cheating. Over the course of 6 months we hung out more and more. She got me into going to the gym so we were with each other every morning and pretty much all day at work. The eventual happened and we both broke up with our SO's and got together. Something about us seemed so perfect. We were on such an exact level that it was mind boggling. 6 years later, we're still the same way.

I guess the moral of this drawn out story is the best way to truly know someone is to be friends with them first. Only then, will you see their true side.

Yeah. I started out as friends with my ex-wife. We knew each other for nearly 2 years before we went out. She was with another guy and as soon as they split, we were together and never looked back. Until it all fell apart 10 years later. And I'll never understand women, because she claims to hate me, yet she is jealous of other women that I go out with.

Well, you have your answer right there.

Either way I still think it's best to be friends because when you're old, flabby and there's no sex to be had (well easily at any rate) you need to have something to keep you together other than the expense of divorce.

It just annoys me how marketable love has become, a la eharmony. almost has turned into a commidity...for me, love has always been a temp feeling, aside from family

I think of my ex wife's grandparents. THey were always together. And when she died, he said that he had lost his will to live. That was with both sets of her grandparents. The wives died first.

The problem is, the older you get in life with more responsibilities, it leaves little time to develop a friendship with someone. You're giving me an idea though. Maybe I should join a book club or something.

This is the kind of shit that kills true love. Exploitation. People don't know what's real anymore because it's all shoved down their throats.

This is one of the truest statements ever.

Oh, and it doesn't exsist.

Yes it does. Just because You've never experienced it does not mean that it doesn't exist. I just gave some examples and there are many others. All true love means is that 2 people are crazy about each other and cannot imagine life apart from each other.

this is so true. i never even meant to meat anyone when i met my wife. i went to the club on base and was dressed in blue jeans, t-shirt, and ballcap on backwards. i was tired of looking and decided to cool it for a while. i didnt even want to go to the club that night but a friend talked me into it. then i met the most amazing woman i have ever met. she is so sexy, beautifull, open minded, sweet, did i say sexy? oh she is so sexy... and still is. we are going on 10 years next april and we have a 7 year old beautifull boy. i swear they cloned me into him... our baby pics look just like him.

so it does happen when you leased expect it. good things do come to those who wait.... :qt:

We are new to being sentient beings ... we are still animals.

Our primary drive is survival and procreation.

"True love" is an ideal formed in our minds that we pursue in an imperfect world. Our animal nature clashes with this. Thus ... the dilema.

The best you can get is prolonged lust. And with some humor thrown in ... is pretty dam good!
