why foam pads under the bar

many people at my school's weight room use those for squating. They must have no shoulder muscles what-so-ever.

i mean for bench, shoulder press, c. crossovers , anything.
LOL - squats i dont know if he does them

If you mean on Squats bro, I can't see how dudes do it that way either. Too much possibility of slippage, especially if you go with a low bar placement. I can't use those shoulder horns either. In my opinion, they are rather dangerous, unless you are just going light, in which case I see even more reason to not use them, due to lack of weight.

Dunno. I have to have the bar raw bro. I cant use gloves either.

I'm with ya on that. My wife complains about my hands being so rough, but I can't bring myself to wear gloves. I like to feel the bar.

Ha, I always say those pads are for wusses who have no traps. It's too funny to see those. Also, I hear they contort you spine and make your shoulders not parrallel to the bar. Don't know if that's true or not, but hearing that makes me turn away from those.

Hehehe.....I can't go back to wearing gloves either. There's something about the way the knurls feel in your hand. It makes me feel good just thinking about it. :p

In my gym the little dudes tape the foam pad to the Squat bar and they get pissed at me when I rip it off. I think its dangerous and makes it easy for the bar to rotate or slip.

the people that use those bar pads always seem to just leave them on the bars
really pisses me off
one day i opened a window and threw one out, i was really iratble that day and that just set me off

I've seen many people use foam pads on the bench in order to get a better bounce and not crack their sternum.

Cheers,

I use the pad when I squat and I have great traps, just more of a comfort thing for me.

If I dont I have to concertrate on the bar digging into my neck.

the bar's not even close to my neck when I squat.

(but I used to use the pad and gloves)

my hands are like brillo pads.

Wow, some people really have some disdain for that foam pad. At least they're doing squats, right? I think it's all a matter of preference. I know some guys who squat much more than I probably ever will and they use that pad. If you can stand using it, then why not? A heavy bar on the shoulders/lower neck will affect you over time.

Personally I like to have the bare bar on my shoulders, but as my weights keep going up I think about using that pad more and more.

I put the pads when I increase the weight on the squat.. It crushes the skin on my spine and it swells up like a golf ball.. I'm no muscle monster, but I didn't start training yesterday either... I'll try without and putting the bar lower and see, maybe it will help.. I'm open to change and variety..

I think some peeps need adjustment on their bar position for squats-- you should never have "neck pain" or a "crushed spine"-- theres a natural pad-like place on your traps-- look at the stickys at the top.

We refer to the pad as the "pussy pad" lol. I was taught from the begining not ot use one and where to place the bar when squating. People use them all the time at my gym for EVERYTHING....
