Why do they close and lock threads around here?

Cause a few certain people decided to bump a whole bunch of old threads for no good reason.

Since when do we need a good reason to bump old threads? I bumped one of my own old threads a while back and it got locked. That's just abusive and arbitrary.

Nope. It's spam. One person decides to bump 15 threads in 1 minute posting nothing but one word on each of them - it's spam.

I think the mods here are all just completely out of control. They should all be shot.

I agree........ I myself prefer to lock threads randomly & with no real reason to keep everyone guessing as to what the hell is actually going on.......

It's a year old thread!

That's not a good reason.

In the case of the 1 year old thead that I wanted to post to, would the powers to be want me to start another thread with the same title? I mean, as opposed to using the "old one."

I've been on other boards where I dusted an old thread off and put it back on radar. And sometimes it generated alot of interest.

I really don't see the point in locking non-flammatory thread, non-hostile threads. That's a damn good way of suppressing speech, debate, board activity, and the most important thing of all: information sharing.

That's a seperate category and an entirely different one at that. There are some people who will post a question or a statement to a thread. That question or statement, unlike a one word "bump," will include a premise.

That's a huge difference. Where as the bump is a meaningless, fairly incoherent-like one word non-sequitir, the question or statement might lead to good information sharing. I have never seen a message board lock threads based on the assumption that people are gonna go crazy and bump threads.

But have you ever seen a message board where people go crazy and bump threads? It's not an exact science brother - and it's easy to talk about it when you are not on "this" side of things. And you know what? A lot of times it's a judgement call. Personally, I know who the members are that do things simply to get a rise out of people or to piss off mods/admin or because mommy took her tit away a little too soon when they were a child. And I have NO problems preempting their childish behavior by acting on their initial move. Such is life. We ain't splitting atoms here.

The situation you described does deserve moderator intervention, but I take exception to threads being locked just because they're old and being bumped by less popular members. I've now had 3 of my own threads get locked over the last few months almost as soon as I bumped them.

Well I can't speak to that, cause I was not involved and don't know to what threads you refer, guy

It takes me to the home page.

Yeah, I noticed that on yesterdays thread where the same thing happened. I anticipated that happening so to cover myself I literally wrote the title of the thread I posted, which was simply "DC Training."

Before I posted it, I went through the "Preview Post" ritual and checked it twice to see if the link went to "DC Training". And it did. But afterawhile and over time that same link mysteriously links back to the home page. Maybe someone in the maintenance department can tell you why that happens. Me, I don't really care and if I do that means I need to get out and go outside. The boardwalk is right down the street, and Tijuana is only 30 minutes away. I'm not here to run my post count up to 9000 or whatever...
