Why do some of you people believe in God??

the whole free will thing is bullshit,,if god knew what you are gonna do,,,is that free will? So basically free will is a contradiction because if god exists he is supposed to be "all knowing" and he will know what our descisions are anyway...makes no sense

Descates had some pretty cool theories on this subject, its worth looking up

the way i look at it is....what is it going to hurt to believe in god/jesus/ or a higher power......until we die know one is going to know for sure.....but wouldnt you rather be prepared and make it to heaven and spend eternity there than in hell....giving blow jobs to satan every day..... ......i am by far from a perfect church goer but i plan on getting there someday

i'm sure god will let you into heaven just because you are scared if you don't he'll put you in hell. does god want your love that bad? why the fuck does he need your love anyway? what kind of supreme being needs to be loved by beings lower then him? the more i think about it the more religion disgusts me. you believe just incase, i'm sure that is what he really wants...

god fearing people are brained washed, scared of nothing, scared of stories and tall tales

when we are born we are born into our parent's religion. we had no choice. we usually accept that religion for truth. what if you were born into a different religion, you would believe that religion for truth. basically just brain washing. those two different people can debate what is right and wrong but they are just babbling bullshit cus they are both talking about made up shit.

Well if you don't believe me, maybe your answer lies in yourself.

YOU ARE A REFLECTION OF GOD, that is why your here.

I can't say for sure you will find this out. It just is. The order of the universe shows a component that even
the most well versed in physics have yet to find this component, not even quantum physics have been touched on this subject.

Sooner or later you will come to believe, or at least a sense of yourself in the scheme of things to be or waiting for the things to come in your life and when you look back on the things that came and went you will find that ? again and again. So the answer is, Yes there is a
power, much more than you could ever understand. Your a finite being and your asking the ? of the infinate nature of the universe. AND IT SAYS: I am that I am.

Hope this helps.

you are a reflection of god, you are taking it out of that fucking bible. you can't prove to me there is religion by pulling shit out of that bible.

i'm sorry but you didnt' move me one bit with your comments. i seriously wanna believe but no one has proven to me that there is god. and i don't understand how you can believe or have faith in something and not tell me why you do. all you guys say is you just do and think about it. that doesn't make sense at all

not to mention the fact that not too long ago people thought the earth was flat and fire, water, earth and wind were the 4 elements. so why is it surprising that we cant yet establish exactly how the universe was created many billions of years ago. just because we cant explain it now doesnt mean that it has to be explained by god. it just means we havent yet figured it out.

good point.....say an indian living in the amazon or some shit, had no clue what a monotheistic religion was, and prayed to a lizzard(just and example).....would he go to hell even though he never fucked with anyone or did any bad deeds? he's doomed because he didnt belive, even though he lead a peaceful and productive life??Many ppl will view this guy as a savage because of his lizzard religion...if god did exist he will judge you on what type of person you were and how u treated others,,,not if u believed in him. Love is a strong word...how can you love something that you have never seen or felt? In this scenario the word "love" should be replaced by "fear"

agree totally with this.

people whip out stuff we can't explain and answer by saying then there must be a god because we can't explain that one. very good point

because i need to believe in something. To think that when you die, there is nothing...the end....thats depressing. This way I feel better about death:)

Believing that there is an afterlife doesn't make me feel better... I'd rather die and just have it be the end then hang out with my friends in hell.

You still remember our philosophy class huh?

I forgot who said it...maybe Socrates or Plato...can't remember right now:

"It's better to believe in God and be wrong than to not believe in God and be wrong."

I don't judge anyone for their beliefs. Nor do I look down or criticize others for their faiths or theological principles. People matter to me more than the sum of their beliefs. Maybe that makes me a bad believer.

Concerning these things in particular:

death of loved ones, pain and suffering of innocent people, hunger and poverty, crime, people who cause others harm and go unpunished, people never exposed to the Bible's teachings, tragedies, other religions etc...to me, these are things that only God knows the answer to. I've asked "why" to most of these things before and perhaps it's not my place to know how things work.

There are plenty of reasons to not believe in God. We can say believers are weak sheep, we can say non-believers are angry inside...that solves nothing. We see and interpret each of our realites differently and that determines our overall outlook. It does no good to say God does not exist, nor does it do any good to say that God exists for everyone. Maybe people are like antennae...some can tune in stations that others cannot. That does not make people good or bad. I also think God understands this better than we think he does. So, I, for one, do not actually believe that non-believers necessarily go to hell. I think we get judged individually. If I'm wrong then I'd never know the difference anyhow...it will be like going to sleep at night...can't remember it save for any dreams.

We're all in this together. Best to just bide our time and try to be kind to each other.
