why do meth addictives scrub themselves with bleach?

Was thinking of that hilarious post on here from the onion last week... about the meth addicts call for help against the spider meanance...

anyway... why do they scrub themselves so much? what is the deal with bleach?
 
I've heard about their meth-induced obsessive-compulsive habbits, but I have no idea why they exhibit some of the behaviors they do. Then again, I've never been a meth addict, so I guess I have trouble relating.

I dunno. I keep asking myself what I'd do if I thought that I had an infestation of insects crawling under my skin... however, I seem to find some difficulty in arriving at an answer for that specific dilemma.

I represented a few meth addicts before, and, so far as I know, none of them scrubbed themselves with bleach. One did pick at her face, though.

You're right. They dont. Obsessive behaviors are very common though. Also, lots of picking at little sores and scratching.

I did debtor-creditor law for 5 years. When I had my own firm I did bankruptcy, criminal defense, and family law.
 
theres a phenomenon in the meth world called "meth lice" where the user experiences hallucinations of being covered in insects, or is convinced that insects live in their skin, hence lots of scratching

ive never heard of them scrubbing themselves with bleach, so this sounds a bit urban legendish, where someone (usually a government body or osme other scare tactician) is putting some spin on things
 
Hyper-stimulation is a frequent side effect of the use of any stimulant. Persons who abuse drugs such as methamphetamine and crack cocaine frequently scratch themselves for several reasons. Paranoia is common. Consistent abuse often contributes to malnutrition, lack of sleep, poor hygiene. The skin becomes less supple and dehydrated. Minor cuts and abrasions don't heal as fast and become more prone to infection. The stimulant drugs irritate the nerves in the skin as well. I have never heard of someone scrubbing their skin with bleach but I have seen methamphetamine abusers, especially women, compulsively scrub their skin until it is raw while they are cleaning themselves. Profuse itching and scratching is also often seen with opiate abuse.

Didn't know that about opiates. I can't tolerate when prescribed because they do make me hot and itchy. Much better to deal with the pain.
I have worked with a ton of tweakers, never heard of the bleach but they twitch and scratch all the time. I send them down the road as soon as I see them. Got into a fight on the rig floor with one and the high bastard lost, sacked his clothes and walked a few miles to the next rig for a ride home.

No, they do their research and all. Even got pictures of the sources too.
 
There is some metabolite of meth that collects under the skin and makes it itchy. I don't remember what it is though, but that is a major reason.
 
I cant believe the onion is being doubted over some drug addicts actually telling the truth.

A friend? Use to sell the stuff and is in prison, not real smart, anyway, I spend a few days with him and made a couple of grand.

No one did any bleach nonsense, just smoked it and got more cash and smoked it,

It is crazy stuff, I am happy I don’t like it, very addictive.


They tweak and clean the house, detail the car, go nut for 36-48 hours, then crash, but no bleach.
 
My wife's ex developed a problem with meth. She has a lot of experience with the behaviors. They often think they are dirty, think they see pimples, or black heads that aren't there. Can't seem to get themselves fully clean no matter what they try. There are problably SOME out there that resort to bleach. I could see it. After several days on that shit no telling what you'll do. Really... a chick in my town recently got convicted of killing her 4 year old because she was all tweakin and he was bothing her. She killed him and burried him in a shallow grave in her backyard. Wasn't until 6 months later that anyone even realized he was missing. She could've cared less. They lived out in the woods like deliverance.... uggghhhhh. Meth monkeys scare me.

Never seen them scrub themselves with bleach, but almost all of them scratch like crazy because they think bugs are on their skin.

I always fug with those peeps.

I walk up with the cardboard picture of my generic sudafed.... and say, I need 20 of these... and do you know which aisle the hoses and funnels are in?

I've yet to see anyone even come close to smiling... They are all like 'WHAT?' real serious like...
