Why do men get circumsized in the U.S?

I thought circumsizing a new born child was a Jewish thing. Howcome people get circumsized in America?

I wasn't born in the U.S so I'm not circumsized, but have always wondered why they still do it.

It's not like we're living in the 10th century and soap/water isn't available. Most of us take one to two showers a day anyways so the whole cleanliness issue really isn't even an issue.

Circumcision caught on in the Victorian era all over the English-speaking world. It was promoted as a panacaea for all sorts of physical and psychological ailments, and was thought to prevent the evils of masturbation. I think it was a combination of Dr. Kellog promoting it as part of his line of quackery, and Queen Victoria having her offspring done by a Mohel. Anyway it was quite the trend for a while.

It slowly died off outside the USA and Canada, and was eliminated virtually overnight in the UK when they enacted their National Health system and it didn't pay for optional cosmetic procedures.

It's a stupid pointless tribal practice that should have faded into obscurity centuries ago.

Im pretty horrified by the idea of strapping down a newborn baby to cut off a part of his tackle (tackle=penis for those that will pounce on my non-grammar grammar) and the poor little thing looks wretched for weeks after. It can't be comfortable.

Anyway the AMA propoganda machine has decided recently to justify the practice by skewed statistics on coorelation between circumcision and lowed hiv/aids incidence in africa.
I don't buy it.
Whenever I hear a woman bitch about it I'm like....are you dating a guy that actually showers or what??

Smegma is actually antibacterial and antifungal so I'm guessing there was a something kinda funky goin on with grandpas quipment, maybe not retracted in a really long time?

Doctors in the USA don't know anything about foreskins or how to treat them, cutting them off is their solution every time. It's seldom necessary.

In countries where the majority of men are unmutilated, you don't see any of this "my grandfather had to get his chopped off at 75" business, because they know how to treat them with something other than a knife.

But there'd be hell to pay if anyone suggested cutting off any of their flaps of skin for purposes of cleanliness.

Women's stuff takes a hell of a lot more maintenance than men's, talk about a double standard.

Americans prefer cut-up penises because that's what they're used to. There's no logic or reason behind this preference. And no man will admit that his stuff is performing at less than 100%, so the mutilation persists.

the study was only based on a years worth of data and included safe sex education.

It may very well be accurate but the study has been brought under serious scrutiny. Theres a pretty key statement in that article but I'd be willing to bet few pick up on it.
I cant find the study itself anymore, wish I could. I had a really interesting conclusion.

These studies fail to consider demographics. In Uganda, circumcised men are Muslims, who are likely to have had fewer partners.

Rather than cutting off parts of his body, wouldn't it be better to make sure your son is instructed in safe sex methods?

Certainly the vast majority of male AIDS deaths in the USA were circumcised men, it didn't help them one bit.

I agree with donut lady. I doubt anyone has said "I wish I had it back." I can see circumsized men hav9ing wished to have been cut when newborn, for whatever reason they may have. If one were keeping score, the cuts would win with that one.

It was a serious question. It wasn't asked so a pissing match could start. Of course those who have had it cut will defend their position to the death because there is nothing they can do to get their foreskin back. Plus men have this macho thing when it comes to their dicks. Pretty silly.

Anyways, I think they should allow the newborn to keep the foreskin then when they're older(15-18) they can decide for themselves whether or not they want it cut. And the only reason guys have cut dicks in porn is because the male population in America have cut dicks and that is what they're used to.
 
well the procedure is more painful and harder to heal from the older people get which is why people opt to have it done to newborns. A lot of hospitals will not allow circumcision anymore, it must be done as an outpatient procedure at a pediatric clinic. I personally think many women choose to circumsize their infants because "their daddy is cut" and they don't want their "son to look/feel different", each generation plays off the generation before but I've found being a woman on many parenting boards that the procedure is questioned by many new moms... especially those who have the new "green" mentality.... questioning some/all or timing of vaccinations, questioning circumsizing, choosing to make own baby food, back to basic breastfeeding, organic baby clothes....etc. Anything unnecessarily "poluting" their pure bodies is out. Forskin is meant to be there, it's meant to protect the head of the penis. It HAS a purpose. I wouldn't want someone telling me to cut off my labia because it's not socially accepted.

I think it's great people are questioning more socially acceptable behaviors. It saddens me when people just do things because everyone else is. A lot of people go to college to get a certain degree to get a job. I believe college is a place for people to learn to make decisions and to learn to question things.

Do they remove healthy tonsils?

There's a big difference between removing a diseased, infected internal organ for medical reasons, vs removing a healthy piece of external genitalia for cosmetic purposes. A foreskin isn't a birth defect.

I've been with guys with and without, and I think they look fine either way. Having seen the unadulterated thing up close though I have to say the practice of removing skin from the end seems weird.

The uncut version I've been with.... there was no crazy extra amount of skin. Once it's pulled back it stays back, it's not a big deal really. Don't have to worry about lubrication and extra to work with during oral.

Why do men get circumsized period. The only thing more ridiculous than male circumcision is female circumcision.

I've heard anecdotal stories that it reduces sensation for blokes anyway from those that have underwent adult circumcision.
