@ htGood question, IP. Seems like men take pride in how many women they have slept with and women take pride in how few men they have slept with. lol.
Why do women insist on knowing how many we've been with? A couple ex's ago one made me sit down and figure out how many I'd been with, approximate time frame and names etc, it was about then I realized how much of a whore I was

The short answer to the question is:
Men who define themselves by their ability to have sex are often insecure, but a huge number of other issues are involved here as well. The way manhood and masculinity are presented in our society, by media, etc - equating sexual endavours with social/economic success - like in rap videos - just as an example.
The long answer is somewhere in the evolution of our species.
The more females a male has sex with, the more likely he is to have offspring - pass on his DNA and thus allow his kind to survive. When we first evolved most men died by the age of 21, so as soon as they reached puberty they have a biological imperative to fuck as much as possible. As men get older they become the oldest and most likely the alpha-male of their tribe, building strength and muscle - to maintain dominance over younger males becomes more important.

it's what imbedded in our genetics. To spread our seed and mate as much as possible. That's why men exist. Social change have altered this to an extent, but our genetics and biology still tell men to do the same thing. That's why so many men can't get laid....they fight this internal conflict due to what society teaches us...whether it be religion, or being a "man" is not ok etc.
Just like women constantly need drama(which creates attention) or attention itself...it's the same shit. And you know what? If society didn't place so much value on how many people a girl has slept with, girls would be banging everything in sight. It's true...what keeps women from sleeping with alot of guys is in fear of being deemed a "slut".
Also,Women can get laid whenever they want. Even the nastiest girl can snap her fingers and have a bunch of losers lining up. I think it was chris rock who said....anytime a man is being nice to a woman he's offering sex and that every women is offered sex countless times a day.
as guys...we have to expend a shitload of energy, time, experience alot of rejection and everything else to sleep with a girl...that's not even including all the stuff we have to do to stand out from the next chump(although women have to do this too). Anything you expend alot of effort doing you're going to be proud of, or view as an accomplishment
