Why are people carb addicted?

this has been on my mind as i was reading through two low carb diet books (sugar busters and atkins)....is there a definitive answer as to why we are a carb dependent and addicted society?

alters seratonin levels in the brain as most people are one of two classes:

THose who eat b/c they are bored
Emotional eaters - a BIG problem

I'd kill some pigeons for some salad dressing right now. GEEEEEEEEEEEZE!

My Glucorell-R takes care of that shit real quick...before that, I was abusing Xenical.....But at least I don't use laxatives or stick my finger done my throat.

Are there carbs in ice cream???

Somebody told me there's no carbs in pizza, beer, or cigarettes.

So that stuff makes good "cheat food" when you are on a diet.

velvette, and what "exactly" is the ceeb's 1.5 pound brocolli challenge? Or more like, what is the point? Oh and does it count if it is cooked and smothered in gooey cheese? I hope

There is no real challenge. Awhile back, there was a thread on the Diet forum about the most ridiculous amounts of food people had ever put down in a sitting, and I said that I'd once scarfed a pound and a half of steamed broccoli in the space of about an hour. The point was to keep from eating other, less healthy things, like the carbs that some people are addicted to.

ANYTHING smothered in cheese counts.

Ceebs, Whiskey,

I mentioned Broccoli because it and some other veggies (complex carbs) can raise your serotonnin levels.

:D

The challenge - well, I thought it was funny.

I saw the "Carbohydrates Addict" book. It was really good marketing I thought, as nearly everyone could classify themselves as a carb addict, so there is broad appeal in the book.

I think alot of it is your culture, how your raised, etc. Being Japanese, I eat tons and tons of carbs, and don't really ever see going without it.

The only time I don't eat carbs (close to none) are when I go on CKDs.

No shit, 1.5lbs of brocolli?? Or whatever... I'd need another lb of meat and a few of those "cups" of rice to go along with it... then eat again in a few hours... :)

Brocolli... LOL...

I've developed a taste for sauerkraut. :)

That german cabbage tastes really good w/ steak.

Red Peppers are what i like best though. Cold........yum. Absolutely delicious in salads. Toss in some balsamic vinaigrette made w/ olive oil and red wine vinegar and you're set.

The only carb I am addicted to is Ice cream. All other fast foods don't really attract me. I don't think I've eaten McDonalds in like 10 years......lol
