Who trains ABS EVERYDAY?

I work mine three times a week. It usually goes like this.

decline board- 3@20
hanging knee raises- 3@15-20
leg lifts/six inches- 5@30-60 seconds

I train mine 1x per week, 5 sets with weight, and have always had killer abs, never seen the point of doing them any more than that

I have rarely seen a 6 pack on those who train abs for hours every day in the gym :worried:

My abs are one of my better bps and I do train them 5-6 times a week....half weighted half non-weightred.........short and sweet, maybe 5-8 minutes works better for me than 1-2 15-20minutes sessions........

I dont train abs at all, but they are still solid from all of the heavy lifting. I suspect i am like most big guys in that i have a nice warm layer of insulation hiding them. If i could see them, i might consider it more.

I hit mine between 3 and 4X a week. Just for strength though. Usually 4 sets of 15 reps with the stack (190lbs) on Kneeling Rope Crunches, on the cable machine.

I try to hit them every time I am in the gym but do not always have the time.
I do loads of sets and reps.
I have this damn layer of fat covering them that will not go away and my stomach sticks out a little (I am completely lean on the rest of my body)
Lately my abs routine is like this:
Decline bench 5 sets of as many reps as possible (starting twenty reps on first set less each set after that) weighted with 22 pounds. I superset each set with hanging leg raises. Ten sets total I am dead afterwards.
I do that routine about once a week twice if I have the time.
The other days my ab routine contains mainly isometrice vacuume exrecises and also sets lying on side and raising the hips for reps and holding the position also (sorry but dunno what the exercise is called)

I am sure my abs would look great if I managed to get rid of that layer of fat

same hear except for the killer definition the Need has lol..besides deads and squats i usually pick an exercise and go with it for a few weeks (rope crunch, weighted crunch, roman chair)

You wouldn't train other bodyparts more than 1-2 times a week, so why would Abs be any different?
1-2 times/week for me.

I have heard this many times and I guess this is true, but I feel abs recover quicker and become weak quicker also.

I usually work abs 2x a week before or after cadio on my days I don't weight train. I do 3 sets of 20-25 and 2-3 different exercises. Just a suggestion. I personally more than twice a weeks is over-kill, but that's just me.

I've stuck to every other day for the past 8 years, but I don't use weights for resistance either.

This thread has made me think about this alot and this is what I cam up with:

Training muscles with low weight or no weight for 20 + reps per set does not require a lot of recovery time. When I do crunches I can easily do 60.
So: If I do Abs with weight on decline bench and then rest for two to 3 days ( I am usually completely recovered within 1-2 days) I can then do abs every day with no weights and many reps. This way I can work the abs about 3-4 days a week and get both endurance and stamina results as well as make them grow bigger.
Off course if I feel tired I could skip the abs on any of these extra days...
What do you guys think?

If you can easily do 60 crunches, you are most likely doing them too fast.
Try counting 5 seconds on both the positive (lifting) and negative (lowering) parts of your sit ups and crunches. Squeeze hard at the top of the rep, as if it where your last.I can assure you it will make the exercise harder. It will also feel better and be more beneficial.
Done like this you should fail at around 15-20.
Same goes for all ab exercises: including ones using extra resistance.

I don't think ab training is necessary if you're doing heavy squats, deads, zerchers, rack pulls. yeah I know I'm in the minority here but then I cant do any kind of crunching exercises because they crush my discs.

Totally agree but you should still work your core which will help strengthen ur squat and dead

It's sweet of you to say so but unfortunately it's far from the truth, my genetic potential for building muscle and strength are below average.. but I make progress because I destroy myself giving 110% to everything I do, eating, diet and train ultra low volume with the heavy weights I can use.

I'm at the bottom of the genetic heap, see the ''before'' pic in my user gallery. or don't, its not pretty :lmao: :rose:

you're right bro, but I -can't- do anything that involves spinal flexion/extension because of my blown discs. If I could do weighted crunches without losing feeling in my feet then I'd be doing them once a week as heavy as possible for a couple of sets.

damn that sucks..how do you handle squats and deads??..i know u move some big weights..

I take a lot of ibuprofen :p

compression isnt a problem.. so far.. but weighted flexion kills my back

but it could be a lot worse, if I couldnt squat and dead then I'd really be bitching :)

Ok I see it... :verygood: you didn't look bad... you mean to say your dad has a pot belly, mom chicken legs, etc.??? :mix:

I thought thick people have an easier time gaining strength. :coffee: :qt:

I sometimes have trained them 6 days out of a 7 day week. Three or four workouts hard, and the rest, very light workouts. Just enough to get them to contract. I don't do this all the time. I have found that my abs respond to this type of training sometimes. Almost to the point of exhaustion,... but not. My waist does get smaller because they may be slightly overtrained or not, but after I see any signs of that happening I usually immediately stop. At times with abs especially, when you just get to that point when "overtraining" would be of concern, and you catch it,....I feel with me, with that bodypart, I make great gains after recovery. A day later and my abs look sick. I do this every one in a while to get a shock to them. I always go by how i am feeling in training. But, I usually do my abs 3x a week, maybe 4 which would be light workout.

I have never understood this:
Abs are a smaller bodypart. For example you wouldnt train upper traps 4xper week would you? (or would you?)
Abs are worked in most compound lifts.
And still even in the 5x5 abs are worked with more sets than the deadlift and as many times a week as bench press.

SORRY FOR THAT. MAJOR BUMP. I WAS ON GOOGLE LOOKIN FOR AN AB ROUTINES AND THIS CAME UP.. DINT THINK TO LOOK AT THE DATE.
