Who has tanita bodyfat scales?

I use Tanita scales for bodyfat estimation since there is no where around here that I can have a caliper assessment. I was wondering if anyone else here uses these scales and what sort of accuracy are you getting with them.

The reason I ask is that I did a DNP cycle a few weeks agao and whilst the scales registered a 5lb weight loss the bodyfat reading didn't decrease. I am a 5'4" female and weighed 147lbs before the cycle @ 18% bf and went down to 142lbs with the first cycle. I have the scales on the athlete mode and the mirror shows I am defined but carrying a little fat on my abs.

I have got a Tanita scale to. I dont think it's accurate bf 27 % yeah right at the gym I was measured 14 % so I dont think it works.

The model I have had a disclaimer that said this product is not for bodybuilders. The have a model that has an "athlete mode" or someting. Mine says my BF is like 26%......whatever!!!, it is more like 12-13%

I have the model that accounts for athletes as well b/c I used to be a competetive runner and still consider myself an athlete... although that description is getting a little tenuous lately.
under the athlete setting it says I range from 8%-14% and under the normal setting, it says I range from 22-26%.
I can see my abs, so I have a feeling that I'm not the latter of the two choices.

they do not compensate for water retention.i had a simular exp while dieting ketossis,i also dropped 4-5 lb and gained 1.2% by the tanita.they are not verry accurate.

I have one and I think that the weight scale part is very accurate. However, I really don't like the BF readings...... way off!

You can use it as somewhat of a rough measurement of change. It IS CRITICAL that you use it under the same conditions every time! Your hydration level is the major factor in it's reading so you must be at the same level of hydration each time you use it or the reading will be off even further.

I used it first thing in the morning after a piss and got fairly consistant readings

You can see veins all the way from my delts to biceps to my hands and it says I'm 24% bodyfat. The skinfold tests say I'm around 10%...so those tanita scales aren't even remotely close.:(

This is a great topic because I also own a tanita body fat tester and was wondering the very same things. Now I know others are having the same problems.

We have one at the gym. However, for ours anyways, I found out that it adds 10%bf to your actual score.

A pro hockey player who just had a hydrostatic submergion test measured at 8.4% then steped on the tanita and bam.....18%. So now I jsut take off 10% and it's pretty close.

It's telling me I'm at 21%, but I'm showing 4 abs and the last row is very close to coming in....sounds like about 10-12% to me!!!

They are very unreliable. Try to find someone who's had a good test recently and put them on it to compare.
