Who feels bodybuilding has ruined strength training in America??

Money is the name of the game. You wouldn't expect people to be honest and truthful in a capitalistic country, would you. If any one of us were in their place, all of us would choose to deceive the public in exchange for the $.

I wouldn't I belive that right action is the means which are the ends in and of themselves, where the end is a by product of a means which was the ultimate point of existance.

You really wouldn't? What if you had a family? You'd rather go work 10 hours/day on a hard labor to feed them? We have to be selfish to an extent, basically your family and yourself are more important than the rest of the people. I'm pretty similar to you though, I always told everyone that all I ever wanted was 19 inch arms, $70,000 a year and an apartment in Times Square. There are people who have morals, knowing that these won't ever bring them any benefit, but they still adhere to them.. I guess you are one of these people,, and to an extent so am I

I couldn't deceive people either. I want to be able to take pride in what I do, and keep my integrity. To me, targeting kids, and lying to them, for any amount of money, as mags and supplement companies do, is wrong. Money is nice, but it comes and goes, pride is forever. There will always be other ways to make money. For me, deceiving people for money is the same as taking it in the ass for money, I am not judging people, but I know personally I wouldn't be able to look myself in the mirror if I earned a dishonest living.

Well then I made an enormous and erroneous generalization by stating "all". Different people have different goals in life.

Some peole want to establish a secure living for themselves and for their loved ones by getting to the top in any way they can.

Others have integrity and refuse to deceive, even if it means taking away possible lucrative opportunities from themselves... these are also the people who won't ever drive a lambourgini

To each their own

I find that as a whole, the general public doesn't know a lot of detail about ANYTHING.

Best quote of the entire thread imo.

Most people use prejudices, half-truths and impressions to make judgements.

Seroids have ruined strength training, not bodybuilding.

For without steroids, we would not have the ridiculous looking freaks we have today, we would not have kids who have lifted for 6 months turning steroids before they've even performed a deadlift, we would not have the magazines like FLEX perpetuating the idea that because Ronnie Coleman does cable crossovers it must build muscle, etc etc.

Without steroids, people would learn pretty quickly that cable crossovers do fuck all for your physique. However, kids start using and before they know it, they're growing off 3 sets of cable curls, 3 sets of pec deck and 3 sets of leg extensions.

My bottom line is this........I'd much rather look like Arnold than one of the (excuse my french) fat-ass powerlifters I see around or 300+ lbs olympic lifters.

For example, in this BB dominated era NFL players are stronger than ever

Hahahahaha. Good one IronLion. How is the Hammy coming along? Hope you are feeling 100% by the combine.

And Steroids has ruined strength training in about the same way that the barbell has. Geez oh man, wake up and smell the dbol.

And to BBD, I totally agree that bodybuilding mags have ruined strength training in this country. Using ridiculously muscular people to sell crap that doesn't work is a big part of why it took me 8 or 9 years of wandering around aimlessly trying to get bigger and stronger before stumbling onto Westside and some legitimate strength training principles.

If true strength training principles, techniques and strategies were as prevalent in this country as all the bullshit bodybuilding crap put out by Weider, then we would not be getting our asses handed to us in Olympic lifting every 4 years.

Speaking of that, when is the last time you saw Olympic Lifting being played in Prime Time during the Olympic Broadcast? Yeah, I don't rememeber it since about 1992 either, and that was only because the guy who was lifting was setting a ridiculous all time record and smoked 4 packs a day. There was much more commentary on his smoking habits than training habits, as I recall.
