my thighs are thick/built, my calves are ok (i train the fuck out of em!), but is it possible to make the bottom of my legs (the area under my calves) larger? i can almost fit my hand around the ankle part.

i have been consistently training my legs for a great period of time. i do understand that calves need extra beating, and the burning reps are the true reps and i've practiced so.

Lavi has a good point. Standing and seated calf raises work different parts of the calf. If your not doing both types then that's a good place to start. Also don't neglect the muscle in the front of shin. (tibia dorsi - I think)

if your ankle bone is thin, you can't increase your bone density..... genetics my friend.

But be thankful for thin ankles because when you calves and thighs get huge they will look even bigger with thin ankles

yes friends, seated and standing calve raises are apart of my brutal calve training. this sucks... when i wear long shorts, the bottom area by the ankles look like sticks :(

thanks all!

Not to switch subjects on you, but why do you think calves need an extra beating?

Also, out of curiosity, what's your calf routine look like right now? What do they measure, and more importantly, what did they tape before you started training (if you can remember...I know I can't ;) )?

And as others have said, small ankles are great from a bodybuilding perspective. Flex Wheeler has tiny joints, and they helped him look more muscular than guys much heavier than he.

Dude I'm in the same boat I have a naturally small frame granted I'm 6'3" but I was never intended to be heavier than maybe 160. I'm now at 245! My ankles are really skinny and I have naturally shitty calves although I have grown them to 16.5" it's still far from anything I'm proud of. My knees aren't helping either those damn things are 17" around so basically I have everything working against me to make my calves look good I have long ass legs and big damn knees with a small to begin with calf muscle. There is no muscle to speak of that can be trained around the bottom of the lower leg that would make it larger in diameter it's pretty much all bone. Just work both the soleus and gastrocnemeus (spell) of the calf and pray for growth.
