while spotting!!

If someone tells you that they are going to try to lift the most they ever did and they need you to be with them JUST IN CASE cuz you dont know if you can do it..BE WITH THEM!

I was goin for a PR on the incline and to alot of you its not a lot but for me it was..245lbs.. the guy i asked to spot me was pretty big and I saw him lifting about 285 300ish on flat so I guessed hed been where I was..the dude lets the weight drop and the bar hits my chin...Luckily i had enough strenth to keep it from falling fast but the point is it could have...oh and I did get it up but I could have gotten fucked..so point being when you spot someone just pay attention!

dont ever put down your accomplishments in the gym, or compare yourself to others. 245 is a lot of weight on incline.

I have to ask people in the gym not to touch the damn bar unless it starts coming back down on me. I don't care if my rep was really slow - unless it starts going in the opposite direction don't touch it. If you do touch it, I can't count it.

I agree with you shades very much..sometimes ill ask an older fellow to spot me and he tries to do all the work for me...I tell him not to touch the bar unless i say pull...this time though the guy wasn't even there and the bar smacked my fucking chin! I had to laugh though cuz I felt like an ass but at least I didn't get hurt.
 
yikes... glad you're ok.

I was spotting someone once who couldn't come close to lifting the weight, and neither could I... it was embarassing for both of us.

That would suck. I went to the gym after a long layoff once and put weights on for squats, and some guy had to come over to rescue me. I was mortified. I get embarassed easily in real life.

ramcononer...that guy sort of sucked for letting it hit you.
 
One of my dudes is getting ready for a meet, this past tuesday he was taking his goal weight down to his chest in a shirt. He's a 165 lber going for 405. He smoked everything up to that point once he got his head into it then was trying 405, he came out of the hole with great speed then threw it back over his face too soon and dumped it. Now if you have ever dumped a weight right over your face, you know what I'm talking about. I caught it about 4" over his face, dragged up on me legs and racked it, he about shit himself.

A good spotter is hard find.... :rolleyes:

that came close to happening with me.
it wasn't much weight to the spotter (235 i think), but it would have been a lot of weight to my nose!
 
This guy had used shirts but never got anything out of them, he's currently in a single ply Titan and natural. He's all about getting a super jacked shirt but really needs to learn the one he's got. We've been training together about a month and a half and he's made great strides, although you need a few ass-puckering experiences to learn really what this stuff is capable of doing if you just get a little sideways.

Not trying to impress anyone, in powerlifting, nobody really cares what you can rep, they just care what you can hit once.... with appropriate form to get two whites.

if your training for a competition, you HAVE to go heavy and have to have a spotter- especially with a bench shirt.

You were kind to get up and laugh about it, because you could have - and probably felt like smacking him upside the head. He was probably staring at some spandex. :)

...if youre going to failure as well...
...if you cant get it up... that is failure, and on bench a spotter would realy come in handy at that point... :coffee:

my 2cc's, don't speak of being modest in the gym when your avatar is a pic of you with no shirt flexxing your bicep on a beach....

BTW, that's not really me in my avatar, those trunks aren't really my type.... :worried:
