Which car would you choose and why?

zr1....corvettes are my favorite and it will smoke 99% of everything on the street, straight line or curves.

the gt-r is wack, read up on it if you think other wise. some of its test weren't legit either b/c it was proven they programed computer.

nissan isn't warrantying their trannys if you use the "STOCK" launch control that came on the car due to it internally blowing up tranny's. the cost of a new tranny is $20k.

The gtr i was talking about is the swedish company "ultima" here is another vid of it.

Black Vette with black rims

then I'd take it to hennessey or lingenfelter to get it even more sauced up

new camaro if they come out with it. has the zr-1 engine

i don't see this happening from the factory. the cost of the zr-1 engine is too steap. the ss version will probably have ls7 or another new ls model that is naturally aspirated. it will most def be a beast though

I'd take the Porsche, but I'm biased.

Objectively the Porsche 911 Turbo or GT2 would be better in most comparisons though.

b0und (Porsche faithful)

owned a corvette...the Viper is by far night and day a better car..way better handling..feels like a muscle car...looks mean..has a big block...

the only advantage of a corvette is the luxury of the interior and gadgets...plus everyone has one. Corvette will never be rough looking and noticeable like a Viper..

I would imagine it would be expensive to maintain
almost every person i know with a recent porsche complains about relaibility an maintaince costs.

hard (if not impossible!) to beat the corvette's combination of power, comfort, reliability and recently aquired quality control.

BUY AMERICAN!! FOK DA FERNIERS!! :artist:

porche = overpriced volkswagon.

i'd rather build up my sti. at least i can haul around my family and run 12's all day long. lately i've been snow drifting:)

Porshe 911.
Had a love for it since I was a little kid. I really love the targa's though early to mid 80's are my fave.
so did I! finally purchased a '72 911 targa in '82...made the MISTAKE of letting off the gas coming out of a curve in the rain....damn thing belly wopped/spun ass first off the road...the technical term is lift throttle oversteer...thankfully no damage to the car or me...traded it off on the same year BMW 3.0 CS the next week!

now THAT was an awesome car! one of the cars that BMW built their legend on that they are still milking today. curvaceous lines, strong in-line 6 cyl engine, smooth shifting 5 speed transmission...wish i had THAT car back for what i sold it for! :chomp:

it was so pretty, so stylish, so mechinally reliable that my mother would get up before me to steal it away for the day! :artist:

Which one and why?

1. Viper
2. Corvette ZR1
3. Porsch 911

Always wanted a 911 since I was a kid friend of my stepfathers had one and got a ride in it a few times. It is a very cool car IMO but not at all practical for Canadian winters. LOL

or rainy new orleans, lolol

Corvairs do that too... :) And the technical term is "trailing throttle oversteer"...

Part of the Porsche mystique is that you have to be a Driver to handle it. Scares off the dilletantes.

yeh, the early (60-64) vairs, with their swing arm rear suspensions, (similar to pre-'68 vw beetles) were oversteerers also.

'65 and up vairs, with the revised corvette style rear suspensions, are benign handlers when proper tire air pressure ratios are observed. :artist:

Any rear engine car with a semi-trailing-arm rear suspension will exhibit trailing-throttle oversteer at some point.

In the Corvair, doesn't "proper" tire pressure involve running the fronts at like 18 PSI?

But really, if forced to choose between the Viper, Corvette, and 911, I'd take the Audi R10.

yes, IF driven fast enough this will happen.

early 911's spun off the road at much lower speeds than other cars did. trust me on this.

porsche did all kind of modifications on the later model 911's to minimize this unstable handling trait.

chevy got it right in 1965; decades before porsche did. :artist:

Yes, a 911 is more twitchy than a Corvair, as befits the difference between a sports car and an economy compact. The older 911s would catch you out if you did something stupid. The idea is to learn not to do stupid things. Older BMWs were also known for trailing-throttle oversteer, I'm surprised your 3.0 CS wasn't a little tail-happy, it's something that BMW fans expect, just as Porsche fans do. "It's not a bug, it's a feature".

very few cars of that time period were as "tail-happy" as an early 911! it was very easy to "do stupid things" in that car. we all cannot be perfect "autoban experts" 24/7, not in the real world. a car need not be "twitchy" to be a good handling car.

the second generation ('65 to '69) corvairs were billed as "a poor man's porsche" by the car magazines of the time period. the "economy compact" image was more for the earlier models.

have you spent anytime driving all/any of the cars discussed here, db? I have.

or are you just an "armchair expert"? :coffee:

Yes, I have plenty of time logged behind the wheel of 911s and '65-'69 Corvairs. I've never driven a '60-'64 Corvair though.

I think they should bring back the Pinto. Anyone agree?
LOLOL!!! i sold my '67 corvair to buy a year old '71 pinto, mainly because i wanted A/C to deal with new orleans' heat & humidity.

two weeks after the "newness" wore off i was cussing myself out for the stupidity of my actions. :(

LOL. Live and learn. LMAO! Hey man, weren't they a fire hazzard and that is why they discontinued them? I heard that somewhere.

The 911. For the look, the engine, the history and mostly cause it's the only Rear engine car out there.
