Where's the best place for me to find what rights I have as an unmarried parent?

If things were to shit the bed in my relationship, how do I find out what I'm entitled to as an unmarried dad? Is the fact that I wasn't married at the time an issue as far as custody and visitation? I know I'll be paying support every month until I'm 50 (fuck, that's a shitty thought), but how do i find out the rest without wasting money on some doosh attorney that'll just pull up what I can find on my own?

It varies state-by-state. If you don't want to pay an attorney, maybe google "Parental Rights XYZ" where XYZ is your state. In a lot of states, if your name was placed on the birth certificate I think your rights kick-in. But then again, so does your child support. For example in TN, even if you've lived with her and supported her and the kid for 18 years, she can sue you for back child-support after the fact.

Good times, eh?

I didnt see the IF part. sorry

Yeah well, if seems to be turning into when unfortunately. I'm trying to keep the postpardum thing in mind, but there are so many other things that have been going on for so long it's getting hard to just live my life. My friends and family say they can hardly recognize me anymore, which is fuckin' great to hear from your mom.

care to share your problems? Adding a kid into a relationship is tough, and will definetly put a strain on things. Once you figure it all out (if you can) it's great!

Oh oh oh! I know the answer to this one.

Cycle some test. Having a kid trashes your test levels. Did you know even holding a baby that isn't yours can lower your test levels?

I believe men have an evolutionary mechanism that slows us down when we reproduce. It keeps us home and keeps us focused on our offspring so our genes can proliferate. :)
