Although you make some good points you can't compare the US to a third world country - apples to oranges. You have to compare the US to other like societies in order to guage our civil liberties and freedoms against those of other civilized and democratic nations. Freedom of speech and expression is common amongst other civilized and democractic nations so the fruitcake lady example holds no water. Look at all the anti-war and anti-Bush demonstations in the EU.

I also spent time in the military(Marines),and have also been to alot of countries and seen some messed up shit.I loved the Marine corps and love our country,but we need to address alot of issues.There are alot of other countries that have better policies than us,and we can learn from them.Sure theres countries that sre worse off than us,but should we follow the same path by not standing up for what we believe in?Every day our freedoms are getting less and less due to political,and media bullshit.Its time to start fighting for whats right!!!!

Divorce rates overburdening the courts, adopted children left without a home upon divorce, urban sprawl...I could go on but no need do your own homework. You can always make a good living in the US if you want to. No where else in the world do you have the same opportunties as you do in the US. America rewards achievement. The government gets their piece of the pie but that piece is much less than any other democratic nation in the world. Do you have any idea what the income tax brackets are like in the EU? I think we have it pretty good but then again some of us don't like to pay taxes so all that is a moot point, huh Satch?
