Whats the point of mariage?

basically, it allows a woman to fufill a lifelong delusion of a fantasy wedding day, control your life from there on out, and then take half your money when she's grown tired of you.

Sooooooooooooooooo true!

Marriage is prison without bars.

lolol.

marriage used to be an ownership document back in the 1800's and now it operates as an insurance policy for the female.

personally, altho I'm only 24, I don't think its a financially sensible decision.

I'm hoping someone on here will provide reasons why i should have faith in marriage but most seem bitter and twisted about past relationships.

It is a societal institution that guarantees the mother and kids a free ride at the husband's expense by imposing exit barriers to the relationship. It makes for a better society by ensuring the women and children cannot be abandoned and provides them with economic means.

As I said before, in many jurisdictions there're no difference between from married and unmarried parents. Obligations for the father and mother are the same and there's even forced heirship (partially) to benefit the kids.

So basically people will just do it for the big party and the cool factor (dont even think it's cool anymore).

And btw, the tax break thing works also with common law marriage/de facto unions. I get the same benefits from the govt. as a married couple would.

what if you got married somewhere the laws weren't like that? would they then apply in your state?

Yes automatically. That's why pre-nup agreements are null and void here.

True, I was speaking in a traditional sense.

the only thing that "allows" a woman to do those things is a weak man.
