Not sure I get what its all about. Not seeing the loyality anymore.

Thats the problem, its so easy and socially acceptable to get a divorce these days, in turn few put any true effort into the marriage.

agreed, should be damn hard to get divorced, that would stop alot of this, "oh well, he's/she's a piece of shit, C YA!"... going to their 3rd marriage at 25 years old...
I'm 47, one of the ONLY things that I did right was to know that I wasn't ready for marriage before now, it's my first on 7/7/07....

basically, it allows a woman to fufill a lifelong delusion of a fantasy wedding day, control your life from there on out, and then take half your money when she's grown tired of you.

LOL they have a child together so guess what? She gets her half and his half too!

I dont have any children with my husband nor will we have any together. So I married my husband because?

Oh yea... EVERYTHING is in my name. This means that "when I grow tired of him" (as you so eloquently put it) I get it ALL....

But then I dont "get anymore"... no more love or affection or kindness or friendship from a man who treats me like I am a queen. Now why on earth would I go and screw that up?

I guess that I am just selfish like that. :)

It just isnt a marriage thread without ol' bmom.

LOL Actually it was my Old Grump that posted on this thread first!
the ability of an old man to post is insignificant next to the power of bmom.

The power of BM is in direct proportion to the power of her husband, luckily she lets me post... DAMN don't tell her I am on her laptop!

:santa:

women are very sensitive when it comes to the status quo, so they need some sort of recognition on a societal level, that yah, she legitimately belongs to this man, and this man has responsibilities towards her.

She therefore feels more secure. All that even if the arguement for marriage is completely void of religious connotations.

This goes BOTH ways.

My husband says all the time, "I lOVE to hear you call me YOUR husband."

And btw, the tax break thing works also with common law marriage/de facto unions. I get the same benefits from the govt. as a married couple would.

not sure this is true. After 11 yrs with my ex (we were common law), he walked away with OUR business. I went to a lawyer (this was in 2000) and he said I have no legal rights to anything since nothing was in my name and we were not legally married.
