Whats the best way to learn a language?

Oceano

New member
I speak French, but I want to learn Italian and Spanish inside 9 months (without travelling to a country which speaks either of these languages)

Whats the best way to do it? is there a universal language qualification

Have any of you ever learned a language from a book?

cheers for any replies thanks

Invading other countries and making them speak your language after a generation is a lot less personal hassle orb.

Or when at a foreign restaurant go in to Jackson mode:

Hi Oceano,

I am orginally Dutch but live in Spain since 9 years. I never took any language classes, but do speak spanish fluent, and can write it (almost) flawless as well..My secret?..;)...DVD's!..When I arrived here I watched a DVD every night. One night..The original version (as in English) with spanish subtitles..the next night, the same DVD in Spanish with English subtitles...and so on. That way you learn the correct pronounciation, and the correct way to write it, all in one go, in a most enjoyable way. On top of that you learn functional phrases, instead of 'close the door, and open the window' crap, it takes you about a week before you can say 'that parking space is mine, asshole!'in Spanish..Erm, Stuff you use every day, so to speak...;)

rosetta stone, look it up
and moving to the country and learning that way is actually the best way to learn.. I used to speak much more spanish but forgot most of it

Cheers man, thanks. That was a helpful post. Where these just regular films? or educational DVDs?

I speak Scottish as well.

Its gaelic innit mate or are you talking about English with mispronunciated 'r's? ;)

The best way to learn a language is to have it taught to you by your parents between the ages of 0 and 5.
