How would YOU feel if I turned your statement around and said...

What you look like doesn't mean XXXX if you can't put up 550 on the bench. He may look good but is weak as a kitten and who wants to go through life wondering if a stiff breeze or hair dryer is going blow him over when he walks around.

What you have said, or at least the way that you have put it...it insulting.
I wasn't trying to be insulting. My point is in the gym you see these guys screaming and yelling throwing up 400+ jump off the bench and start yelling "Im the man". And Im not talking about a powerlifter or football player physique. Im talking about the guy who comes into the gym just to try and show off how strong his bench press is and after that he has nothing else. It's an ego thing for alot of people. I used to work out at this gym and this guy weighed over 400lbs bf 40% minimum he was stronger than a bull on the bench but how can you respect that when he let his body go and become what it was.

Rite on !!! :garza:

I know when I hit 300 it was a great day.......but 315 was way better just because of the #of plates. Same with deadlift, when i hit 4 plates it was even more satisfying then when i upped it to 425 for some reason. Next stop 495 lol.

I still remember the first time I benched 315. I had some huge black guy spot me and he was in amazement that I was able to bench that much. He wanted me to put on a lifting belt because he thought the weight was too much for my body to handle (wtf).

I don't thing I've ever even tried to bench 300. It just seems not as cool as 3 cadillacs on each side.

Now I understand  . Yeah those guys r annoying. I hate people who go to the gym and only bench. They r scared of that squat rack.

The amount of weight you lift dosen't mean shit. It's how your physique looks. If a guys weighs 330 and puts up 550 on the bench but he's got a gut and fat ass. I have more respect for the guy weighing 200 putting up 315 and he's ripped.

lol, we coulda guessed that by your handle. Bowtech? jk bro...

Oh ya i know what you mean now... There are definitely those guys that look like complete shit but bench all day and think they are strong...

I have respect for the big and strong and the small and strong.. I'd rather see ronnie putting up 500 for 10 with a flat back and no arch than a 'casual powerlifter' with a 50" waist belly benching the bar about 6" in a shirt, but both are impressive in their own way.

To get what you want often causes you to make compromises. If someone gets off on having a great bench then good luck to them. If having a great bench involves growing to the size of a brick shit-house and never squatting and they're prepared to do it because they love to bench then I respect the commitment they undertook to attain their goal.

I tend to respect great physical power over a great physique but accept that looks can be impressive, too. They each require risks and a bucket-load of hard work some of which you can offset with good genetics. To each their own. I also think that Svend Karlsen or Hugo Gerard now have a better physique than Zane in his prime, though, so make of my comments what you will.

Not to get into the whole powerlifting fiasco now, but personally if PL'ing was ALL raw I'd be into it so much more. I might even consider competing.
