What's a bigger deal 300 or 315 bench?

What is a bigger milestone on the bench press?

The amount of weight you lift dosen't mean shit. It's how your physique looks. If a guys weighs 330 and puts up 550 on the bench but he's got a gut and fat ass. I have more respect for the guy weighing 200 putting up 315 and he's ripped.

3 plates looks cool...so what? you'll be the coolest guy lifting 3 plates....that people might have paid attention to.

IMO,the weight that you worked hardest to get to is the most important. generally you'll have some time where you are stuck on a weight and it drives you nuts to beat it. That weight is the most important.

congrats on getting 275. keep the upward climb going and hopefully you'll breeze past 300.

Goals are important to progression but the sad thing about goals is that they are history once you've achieved them. If you've spent a long while fixating on 300 then that's the one that's a big deal to you. A three-plate lift can just as easily be two plates plus a lot of change whereas 300 is still 300. For me the three plates was a biggie and mental milestone, though.

Congrats on your new PR.

It depends what u do and what ur goals are. I am an offensive lineman i am not lifting to get ripped I am lifting to get strong. I am pretty muscular tho for a 300 #er 15%bf

Good luck with that statement at a David Tate seminar.

How would YOU feel if I turned your statement around and said...

What you look like doesn't mean XXXX if you can't put up 550 on the bench. He may look good but is weak as a kitten and who wants to go through life wondering if a stiff breeze or hair dryer is going blow him over when he walks around.

What you have said, or at least the way that you have put it...it insulting.

good job on the 275, id have to say once your in the 300 club you got some status but i voted 315 you dont want to be peicing together your max jus throw some plates on and hit it :)

Just my personal opinion, based on what i have seen. The body weight of the person compaired to the weight he's throwing up is whats impressive. Its more impressive to see 160 pounder throw up 3 plates than say a 200+ lbd person throwing up 3 plates. jmo...congrats on 275

To me 300 is the bigger deal. I have not benched 300 yet but I'm working towards that goal. I only weigh 153 so the idea of benching close to twice my body weight is driving me. A training partner from several years ago believed you couldn't be considered strong until you bench and squat twice your body weight and deadlift 3 times your weight. That has stuck with me is what I continue to work towards.
