I hate the argument about how much you weigh compared to how much you are lifting. It's a valid argument. But I hate it because it discounts the weight that some of the larger guys are pushing.

If you are pushing up 425 or 450, I dont care if you weigh 175 lbs or 375 lbs...I'm not gonna walk up and give you crap about what you are lifting.

I agree with you as far as i wouldnt say anything negative to a 375lb guy benching 425 or 450.because one I wouldnt try to discourage a person reguardless of size from hitting the gym (I think most the world is fat and lazy and therefore dont make fun of anyone making a effort)...but in all honesty you would expect a guy that big to throw up that kind of weight...In my opinion and its just that.....its pretty impressive to double it reguardless of the weight.....more so than total weight....If i seen a three hundred pounder struggling with three hundred i would think he was a puss or had a injury.

you have to remember that some big people have long arms which makes it hard to throw up big wieght on the bench. I have the wingspan of a person that is 6'8 so its hard for me to throw up +455 i also wiegh 304 lbs

bigbabboon how many times can u rep 225 ?

yeah being like 6'3 sucks. Some people who are like 5'5 and 140 can put up 300 easy

Just to further update... I threw up 290 today. I then attempted 300 and failed. Then I cranked out 11 reps at 225 so it's a comin.

God bless gear.

No one takes into acount thats its not just the weight that matters its what percentage of your body weight it is. For example, I get tired of seeing big fat 300lbs benching 315 thinking there hot sh*t when they are actually only doing 15lbs over there body weight. For an experinced lifter or some one really into weights 15lbs over your body weight is a damn shame for it to be your max. My friend Terry C. was 205lbs and could put up 325+lbs all day on the bench. He got alot of people's attention when he benched cause he used proper form which is unheard of when you get up to that weight. Alot of idiots just like to see how high they can get the weight to bounce off there chest like a bunch of idiots. I'm sure you have seen those guys in the gym that lay a folded beach towel on there chest to cushion the impact. What the hell part of controlling the weight does that fall under?

Like it was stated above you have to have a strong back to have a strong chest. By working the back you will be better able to stabalize the weight through the motion. more 45 pound plates always look better 315

I weigh 289 lbs. My bench is somewhere around 420-425. I stop every press about an inch above my chest without the towel. I dont want to tear my shoulders up. My third lift is 315 on a typical workout...I get 12 reps. But according to your theory thats not impressive.

Until youve been under the weight...you wouldnt understand...

My workout partner...recruit...I spotted him when he got 475 on bench. He weighed 240. He weighs 50 lbs less then me and is benching 50 lbs more. But he doesnt discount my lifts because he understands what it means to push up that kind of weight. :inflate:

25 times. But my stamina is crap.

Thanks Bro.

I have seen Recruit do 30 reps at the end of his workout. The guy is a monster. Just genetically gifted.
