You guys ever consider cardio for it's own sake? There are many benefits too it just like with lifting, but I think it deserves more PR dedication.
IE - I can bench 2x my weight AND I can run a mile in under 6 minutes and a marathon in under 3 hours.
Honestly, I'm more impressed by running PRs because running really comes down to 'how much pain can I subject myself to', whereas lifting - either you can lift the weight or you can't, and it's all over in seconds anyway.
Training to race is much harder than training to lift for the same reason. It is frickin PAINFUL to run at your maxiumum. To lift at your maximum is sort of fun and doesn't induce the same level of exertion (as defined by how much oxygen you are using and how fast your heart is beating and how much pain you feel).
