What to do when I receive this package

I'm expecting a small package from a source in about a week. It comes USPS. From what I understand, a card informing me that a package is waiting for me at the local post office will be placed in my mailbox one the package has arrive at the local post office. What I plan on doing is to sign the card, then the postman will get the package from the post office on the next business day and leave it in my mailbox. I will then simply pick it up from my mail box and take inside my apartment. Does this seem like a sound approach? Is there anything else you all would recommend that I do? Perhaps an entirely different approach? Info appreciated.

Safest thing to do would be to tell your regular postman to leave the package outside your door. If you sign a card it can be used against you as acceptance of the package whether or not you go in person to get it. Remember, USPS packages can not be inspected without a warrant, but if law enforcement knows what's in the package (know's the return address as an illegal supplier) the only way they can tie it to you is if you accept the package in person or in writing.

Is that the case even if I claim I thought I was signing for an expected Christmas gift?

No way man. They'll nail your ass to the wall if you sign your name for it. You cant just say you didnt know what it was. It'll never hold up in court. Like I said, have your post man just leave it at your door, this way there's never any PROOF of exchange.

I'm not exactly sure if I have to sign for it or not, but I'm trying to find out. If a signature is required, what would be your recommended course of action at that time?

If your source is legit, he should not require a sig. It's been my experience that USPS parcels that can fit in a PO Box are just left there, or on a door step. The only thing you could do is maybe leave the postman a note saying to leave the package at your door. DO NOT SIGN THIS NOTE. This way it's non-specific and can't be use against you. If he doesnt and you have to go to the post office to get it, you're always running a big risk.

I've confirmed that I DO have to sign for this package. You see, a friend who had a password to order from this guy ordered the stuff for me. I know that may sound a little strange, but this guy is a friend of mine and I trust him. Now, my friend's advice was that when I get the card informing me that I have a package at the post office to just sign it and then leave it in my mail box. The postman will then deliever it to my mail box the following day. My friend, who has ordered from this source on several occasions in the past, told me that that is the way that he goes about it and has never had a problem before.

I know you said to not sign it, but is there anyway that I can get the package without having to sign for it?

I dont think you can get it without signing for it. If you have a trusted friend that has interaction with the source and it was all good, then you can give it a go. I'm not sure what I would do if it were me, but odds are you'll be fine. But then again, the price to pay for getting caught is great. I'm sorry bro I dont really know what to tell you.

Have someone else sign the card in a manner that does not resemble the name, lots of people have signatures like that. If the question ever arises or you have to poly, you can honestly say, 'I didn't sign for that.'
