Well nothing has been solved yet. I talked to two different police stations and they both said I need more info from the Capital One, and they're giving me nothing. They supposedly "closed" the account on the card the thief was given, and told me the account was officially "under investigation" and that they'll let me know when they have more info. That was over 5 months ago. Well it's still under investigation, and the number they gave me for the investigator was a "wrong tie line", and get this, I find out it wasn't even the right building, that they moved and gave me the old number.

I'm losing my patience with this because I ordered a credit report over a month ago seeing as how I hadn't heard anything from Capital One. Turns out there is indeed a new number given to the account and the balance is almost $13,000 now, nearly double what the credit limit is. If the account is closed like they told me then what is the reason for that? The last "progress" made was two weeks ago, where they relayed me to the investigator's number, and I left a message telling him to call me back as soon as possible. His voicemail stated he'd call back within 48 business hours. No call back yet.
I suppose I have to try to get some sort of records of what's going on with this new account, but since it's "under investigation" Capital One isn't giving me that luxury. Hell every time I call they just relay me to the fraud department. This is going nowhere. Maybe I can get my credit agency to do something.

13K shit!! Man that sucks I am sorry. I had someone when I lived in an apartment years ago get hands on checks in my name and wrote 5 hot checks from an account I had already closed coming to around $700. I could not imagine dealing with this big mess you have. I hope it all gets resolved soon and it doesn't screw your credit up bad. I have a feeling this will be a long battle for you :( Damn scumbags!

good thing you are only responsible for $50... Contact each credit card reporting agency, and have a comment attached to the line of credit, that the line was created through theft, and list the Contact info for Capital one..

easy sneezy..
