What Size Needle For Shoulders?

I've been using a 1 inch needle for my shoulder but I just want to make sure it is going deep enough. How far does it have to go to hit the muscle? Also, when I injcct Fina into my shoulder, it hurts for a few days. Is this normal?

1 inch is fine for the delts.
