What is your job and how did you get it?

I work for a telephony company. Got the job after a year of school and I triained a guy on the rescue squad I worked for. Also helped him lift the hell out of his jeep ,so he said if I was ever looking for a job to let him know. So I did....

I'm a part-time custodian at the "I Can't Believe It's Yogurt" right next to the Cineplex off Martin Luther King Ave.
Lets just say sexual favors in the backseat of a '91 Honda Civic figured into me landing this sweet setup.

i'm a graphic designer.
i graduated with a communication design degree.
i have always known i wanted to be in the design field, so it's my greatest passion. i love my job, however, i will be happier once i can move to europe and make the transition to start designing for the techno industry.

I always wanted to do that. I am not artistic at all.......if it ain't there already I can't picture it.

Research Biochemist......needed a good bachelor degree and a Ph.D (any moron can get a science Ph.D in this country). I've been working for close to 3 years now....not including my Ph.D.
I'm getting out at the end of October to train to be a teacher. The work is fine, although pay and hours arent spectacular, but the people are assholes. Everybody likes to think scientists are incredibly honest and truthful.....in reality they steal each others work and ideas and promotions come about only if you kiss ass....it very rarely has anything to do with ability. Did i mention that you have to pay your dues before getting good jobs? Science is run on numbers of publications. I have more than alot of people who run their own labs.....but apparently I am too young to have the baility to run a lab, even though my current boss openly admits that I am virtually runing his lab!
So like I said....I'm getting a proper job asap.
Sorry bout the rant!

How long did it take you to get it? What training have you had for it, such as college, etc. Are you happy? I wonder what everyone on here truly does for a living.

Re

Airline Mechanic. My uncle works here and got me the inside scoop. It's who you know not what you know....I do have my A&P license.

rudedawg -- yeah, it's an incredible profession and i'm totally in love with it. looking through a design magazine makes my heart rate go up like it's a playboy or something. lucky for me, i've always been very artistic (everyone in my family is) and i have a talent for it.
i think my greatest passions in life are -- sex, design and techno.

I'm an Interior Designer
(NOT a decorator -thankyouverymuch!)

I came upon it by accident - long story short, I wanted to learn to write like a draftsman (uh before the CAD rage) - as it happened a hidden talent was found and I went to college for it, have two degrees and debated going back to school for a Masters in Architecture but backed out at the last minute.

Our clientele consist on the NYC/Hampton business person which in itself is a job as to babysitting their idiosyncrasies. I have found that I have a big mouth when it comes to putting someone in their place so I've had to learn and re-learn how to continue to be more diplomatic. I enjoy it but I find that the business & contract side of myself contradicts the creative side.

The biggest misconception of the job is that I spend my entire day picking out pretty patterns, fabrics and art objects. I spend 75% of my time following up on orders, on job sites, doing drawings and invoicing. The remaining 25% of my time is with the client and in the Design Center or researching out new product.

The biggest thrill is to see the job through to completion, taking a step back and think wow, I DID THAT!
