I'm an Interior Designer
(NOT a decorator -thankyouverymuch!)
I came upon it by accident - long story short, I wanted to learn to write like a draftsman (uh before the CAD rage) - as it happened a hidden talent was found and I went to college for it, have two degrees and debated going back to school for a Masters in Architecture but backed out at the last minute.
Our clientele consist on the NYC/Hampton business person which in itself is a job as to babysitting their idiosyncrasies. I have found that I have a big mouth when it comes to putting someone in their place so I've had to learn and re-learn how to continue to be more diplomatic. I enjoy it but I find that the business & contract side of myself contradicts the creative side.
The biggest misconception of the job is that I spend my entire day picking out pretty patterns, fabrics and art objects. I spend 75% of my time following up on orders, on job sites, doing drawings and invoicing. The remaining 25% of my time is with the client and in the Design Center or researching out new product.
The biggest thrill is to see the job through to completion, taking a step back and think wow, I DID THAT!
