I've been invited to talk to students at several colleges on the skillz I have honed.

My research has also been published. I can walk into any book store and show you my name in a book.

Used to chair a regional anti-crime program sponsered by the FBI for corporations that were subject to such crime, now I just participate.

I also dropped out of highschool to consult for a federal institution that was having some 'issues' that I could take care of.

I never looked back.

i'm a hustler, college education is irrevelant to me. i figured this otu when i was making more many than my teachers, w/ my business part time while i was in high school.

spent a couple of years in college...only reason i went to college was to party and experience the college life. wasn't a bad deal

i'm eons ahead of earning potential of any of my friends who went to school(or are still in)

Nah. None of the above. He's a shrewd business man, which is a different kind of intelligence than book smarts. I actually think it's more of a talent. Either you have it or you don't. I have two very impressive business related degrees from top schools and I couldn't begin to do what he did.

your mental business maturity has not evolved.

i always see you associate wealth with being crooked, greedy or manipulative.

business is/can be cut throat, but the most successful long standing business people are those who established strong business relationships via providing good service/product, etc. All those things only benefit short term growth. Crooks go out of business eventually....or to jail.

not everything is a win/lose. best business model is a win/win for the client and the business. in fact, that's the best way to live LIFE.

anything i've ever sold in my entire life is because the buyer/client saw it as a benefit for themselves (that's the SOLE reason people buy/act in business, to benefit themselves).

Maybe, but he's certainly got no reason to lie to me, nor does his wife or brother, all of whom I've gone to dinner with a few times.

Luck is part of success stories like his more than connections. Connections and networking can be created if you know how to do it. Might be harder and take longer but there's nothing have haves have that the have nots can't get if certain elements fall into place and they have the skills, drive and a willingness to take the right risks at the right time.

I'll have disagree with you on the crooks go to jail or out of business thing. It's not illegal to lie and manipulate. There are always loopholes. Donald Trump is full of shit and he's a free man. I know there are some honest, decent successful (monetarily wise) people. But, I think they are the exception and not the rule in the world of business.

yep, exactly. Most people sit and complain about their current position or lack of a network instead of developing the skills it takes to create one. Those who are successful in business aren't consumed with limiting beliefs like these.

reputation is one of the most critical things in business. if you rip off people constantly there's no way you can build a foundation. Eventually you run out of people to rip off/manipulate unless you have serious advertising dollars to attract more business, and you need major investors at that point.

word of mouth is the foundation of any business in its infancy and by doing unethical business you ruin any chance of that.

your views are so jaded, it's almost sad bro.

you're right, they do fail. you know why? In almost every case.....it's a poor busines model with insufficient or INEFFICIENT resources/capital. They don't have enough reserves until the business can turn a profit. any business takes a few years to get going, so if the reserves aren't sufficient to float the business, of course it fails.

i see offices in my business close down everyday. it's always for the same reasons. poor business model and lack of reserves.

has very little to do with luck

Here's the deal Calvless: When my fiance lands the job that she will inevitably land, then I get to quit my job and focus on how to make more money. Any ideas where to start? I've thought about starting my own security guard service business. I already helped my boss get a contract from a friend. The cheap bastard only gave me 100$ bonus. When I quit, I can start my business (assuming that it would be profitbable) I don't know shit and that info is not readily available. Anyway, I can start by taking that contract from his cheap ass.

I got a buddy who is a teacher, his salary went up after getting his masters, but it depends on what you do for a living. More schooling in my field would do nothing but rack up a bunch of loans.

And eyes allready gotz wickid smartes!
 
Trade school bitches!! I went to a scaffold builders course, hydro mobile course, blueprint reading course, all of wich were about a week or two classes. I got skills with my hands.

yep sometimes you got to go to class about 1-2x per month untill you reach journeyman status. I hold 2 cards right now. But have been working as a laborer because there are more hrs, better pension and insurance and you can retire in 20 years. I can retire when I'm 40 if I want.

my brother in law is the CEO of a major lender/bank..when i first was getting into the lending business he told me how many guys he hired then shortly fired with degrees from harvard, yale etc.

Most successful people in his company were the somewhat book educated, but business savvy/socially adept people.

true brilliance is that equation of enough education (book smarts in their specific area) and street smarts. street smarts in itself will always take you alot further than just book smarts

you also had to spend 3 years to get it. depending on your field, if you allocate the time into a work environment you may be able to experience the same/better result. depends on your profession, really

Well, first of all you need to do something you enjoy and you're familiar with. If you're not driven by what you do your business will never be successful. If you don't plan and are not properly educated on how to run a successful, it will certainly fail.

since you're in security, that's probably a good start. If you lack business experience, you DEFINETELY need a mentor, preferably in the field you're in. If you want to be successful at anything you need a good model to follow. My family happens to have alot of succesful business people..so i was kind of born with it.
it'd take an enormous amount of planning and education in order to run a business like this if you don't already have a foundation.

you obviously want to start small, but you also have to figure out the logistics of everything. do you already have an established network for clientele(i.e. connections with warehouses, housing communities, or whatever other places require security? If not, how are you going to market to these people?
start up costs, monthly expenses all need to be calculated too. if i were you, i'd think about a niche. if you bag some big contracts (condos, etc) you can make ALOT of money in that business. i know a few companies here that make fuckin coin...

but from the sounds of it you need
1.) to read alot about marketing, developing a business model etc
2.) more importantly, see the operations and executive perspective of a security company by someone who's already successful
3.) Better development of your social skills to network (not a knock, it's just crucial)

I finished hs school thats about it besides twice a month classes and maybe 4 1-2 week classes. But I don't hold a candle to all the docs out there.

universities are 4 years here, too. Junior colleges are 2 year associates for the most part.


I got my B.S. in human resource management. I'm still trying to decide whether to go back for a masters, or to go the MBA route. Either way it will be at least 4-5 years before I go back. Ideally I will work for a company by then that will pay for it (John Deere is where I'm looking, worked there in the past).


Oh yea, killahbee told me I'd be a customer service rep when I asked about people with management degrees :)

I worked with a girl who is my age (23) who just finished her masters and is taking the CPA this summer. Pisses me off :) She got a job with KPMG, big time firm in chi town, making lotsa bank.

i'm in the mortgage business now....before that i had an e-bay business for awhile back in high school, and then in college had my own personal training business.got a little irresponsible with my business capital though :)
really, any sales or the like....(FORMAL)education is irrelevant. need to be aggressive/go getter, a good salesman and know your products. you hvae to learn every aspect of what you're doing and how to do it well, if go that route though

better learning that then than 30 years old with 2 kids, a wife and a retarded size mortgage payment
 
Ended up 12 credits short of an MFA at university, also did a seperate 2 year course (AAS) at a filmmaking school, so I consider the bundle an honorary Master's :)
 
I have a Bachelors....I enjoy school and will probably go back at some point, but in my current occupation, I doubt a master's would do me much good in terms of making money, or in terms of how effective I am at my job....I would consider it if I wanted somewhat of a career change, or to teach...who knows.
