What is the fastest you have ever driven?

Yes this is completely unsafe, retarded, and I doubt I'll ever try to hit speeds of this sort again, but just about every male with a pair of berries has tried to push a vehicle to unreasonable speeds at some point. What's the fastest you've ever taken a car up to? Post what kind of car it was and how old you were at the time.
I hit 145 in a race on a highway in my '94 Mustang GT back when I was about 21 years old. I was racing against a stock GT, but I had headers, high flow cats, and flows so I had more on the top end than he did. Quite a rush though...anything past 120 is pretty nutty.

Post up, magical brolys.

This broly aint too magical.

Few years ago I hit 105 in my 87 Prelude driving home late at night on the highway. I'm surprised the thing didn't explode.

i had my speedometer pegged in my eclipse at 145 so i assume i was doing close to that maybe a lil more.

143 on a GSXR750 '01. I was on back though :(

Thats way too fast for two wheels...especially to not be driving.

Had a 91' GT that I had above 140 a couple times. And had a 78' 280 Z up to 120-130.

I had the needle buried at 140 on I-85 coming from Atlanta - it was so fast that the telephone poles looked like they were curved as they flew past.

91 - Mustang LX - 5.0 liter

500 knots on a private jet to New York riding as co-pilot but I guess that doesn't count! :)

130 mph in a factory stock 1968 Firebird 6 cylinder overhead cam manual three speed with 3 other people in the car on I-40 just past Winston-Salem, NC in 1979 headed to college. Strange that I can remember all of that since it was 23 years ago. I guess the old saying you'll never forget the first piece of pussy you get or how fast you have ever been.

I had a 93 Cobra GT with a paxton supercharger and all the extra's. Before I put the 4:11 gears in the rear it would hit 150, after that it was redlined at 130, but you got there pretty fast.
I've got 130 on a R1, but it started getting shaky

160mph in a Lamborghini Diablo. I wasnt driving, it was my dads friend. The guy races for team Lamborghini, so he knew what he was doing. That thing was fucking unreal.

Pegged out my 97 Trans Am back in high school (Motor Trend says around 167) tripping balls comming back from the beach with my two best friends in the car. Stupid I know but what do you expect from a 17 year old that had just started experimenting with drugs?

Fastest ever on a 2 wheels was 137 on my friends R1, yes I was driving.

good-view-of-vette.jpg

Did the 170+MPH run in my 2000 vette twice now. I thought the damn windows were going to blow out. It was so loud! Definitely a big difference between 150 and 170. Have done 150 quite often (10+) times, but 170 is a bit scary.

Wouldn't recommend it at any other time than at sunrise on a Sunday morning on a major freeway. Any slight corner or rise or dip in the road at 170 feels like you are 4-wheeling.

Nice vette, had one over Thanksgiving break and I almost cried when i had to give it back.:bawling:

I will be buying a 2005(the C6) as soon as I get done with my graduate work, which should be right around then, as long as everything goes as planned.

BTW you look like you would break that poor little thing standing next to you.

Driven - 110 or so
Been in a car - 145 in a BMW, I was pretty fuckin scared b/c the dude who was driving was insane. He had rich parents though.

140 in a modded '90 GT stang
155 in a modded '97 Trans Am
I was riding shotgun each time and it was intense.
The fastest I've ever driven was 120 in an Acura Legend.

When I was in H.S. in 1983 I took my dad's 1970's American made something (mighta been a New Yorker...I remember it was tanklike) and got to 120...the car was shaking so I slowed down.

A few years ago I was on the highway in my '97 Honda Accord and did 100 for a while...no one else was on the road and I was in a hurry to finish my 7hr. ride. LOL

MKIV's are the shit. Had a friend with a BPU++ and one with one with a T88. I think they are one of the best all around cars ever made and can take one hell of a beating if you are a harsh driver.

charity-and-ferrari.jpg

Did 155+ in the Modena pictured below. But it was loud as hell being a mid engine. The funny part about that story is that is wasn't at sunrise when I am usually brave, it was at about 4 pm on a Saturday. Well the funny part is that right about the time I hit 150, I notice in the center lane, a county sheriff's car. Like I am going to stop at this point.

I just kept going, and the guy didn't even turn on his lights. I thought he might of thought he imagined it because I blew by him so fast.

I Hit 145 a few days ago in my 2001 Vette Z06 tooo fast for me....RADAR

164mph Stage III Audi S4 on I-95 (south carolina) i was driving to florida from NYC i made it to DC in less than 3 hours and to west palm beach florida in 14 hours

154, verified by the louisiana state police, a '77 trans am, heavily breathed on engine.......very stable at that speed. surprised me!! the tops of the side windows pulled away from the weatherstriping at about 130, the magnetic cb antenna came loose at 105.............

luckliy the cop that clocked me owned the car...........i was the only one he trusted to drive his car other than himself.

140 in my lexus 300es.

160 shotgun in a 2000 viper with a friend of my parents who owns a dodge dealership. Now that was fucking fast.

150 plus in my 95 rx-7 heavily modded (borla exhaust, light fly wheel, cold air induction)

the thing was smooth like a bike and keept wanting more speed,

this was on interstate 17 going to upstate NY

with all these racing stories its funny, wonder if anyone can match my 37 tickets, 2 times in jail, 4 suspended licenses in 2 different states...

needless to say I rarely drive fast anymore

130 in the car,100 on the bike.

Did 155 in my '93...too bad those cars are such pieces of shit. Having been driving since I was 14 ,other than the two states thing, I would give you a run for your money in the ticket and suspension categories unfortunelty.

hey will someone post a picture of my stang if i send it to ya???

all 3 were done in 55mph zones

140mph in a 72 nova
145mph in a 89 mustang gt
165mph in a 2000 saleen mustang

how does that borla exhaust sound? i was going to put those on my nova when i had it, but i was talked into turbos(i think thats what they are called)

Borla is the best bar none

you don't get that stupid high pitch bullshit, instead its a low note throaty sound

and every piece is stainless steal.

nah this lawyer wanted to trade my car for this,so I drove it for about a month before I decided against it.Bikes mine though.I had nothin to do with the investments made on the car,but thats the one I drove fastest in.

240km/h in a 2002 911 turbo
the coolest part is that the guy in the passenger seat cant even reach out and touch the dashboard when you're going that fast

155 in a M5 bmw. Car was only cruising at that speed, that's its maximum speed though since it's electronically limited to that speed.

About 70 on the highway in my altima

btw, anyone doing 100+ on a highway that they cant see in broad daylight is clear for the next few miles is a fucking prick

115 all the time in my '96 maxima (loss of acceleration there)
110 on my GS750
130 in my fathers M Roadster. I was still in fourth gear. I was just passing a guy in a two lane and looked down before I returned to my lane and was like.....shit

130 in a plymouth prowler. 120 on an Indian. And 145 on a GXR 600. I would go faster but that was topping out all three vehicles to the point of rattling. I need to put nitrous on my Indian or I need to a 124 inch s&S motor on a custom bike. I totally dig speed. What a rush. And if I die, I won't to be an old fart crapping in my pants and waiting to die.

I actually had a dream last night after reading this thread that I was pulled over by a cop for speeding in a school zone....it was a weird dream, I was in the middle of talking him out of giving me a ticket, and all these elementary kids were walking by, and then he jumped into the passenger seat of my car and was ducking down, and is like, "I think that kid has some drugs in his pocket" and then he ran out after the kid in swat team style and I drove away

165 miles an hour on a Suzuki Katana. Lil k and I were laid down flat flying...

Damn, I still remember that day.

Next to that, I did about 150 miles an hour through Utah going to Las Vegas.

hit 145 in a 93tt.
did yours whistle like a mofo?
think it was the air goin round the windows or something.

The speedo on my 01 GSXR-600 read 176mph. I was going slightly downhill, and those speedometers are usually off at those speeds. Most likely around 160mph though. Very fun and scary at the same time. I was passing people like they were standing still.

Post up, magical brolys.

232Km/h in an Acura.

The whole car started to rattle at 225Km/h

Ony time I've been scared of speed in my life.

This was in Ottawa btw.

I was 18.

For you americans, thats approx. 145mp/h

It depends on the car. The best are Mercedes by far.

You can go 120mp/h(192Km/h) and you can't even feel it.

Smoothest ride.

Fonz

Damn you guys got me beat pretty good. I've done 120 on the Autobahn in a Ford Escort Wagon (it's all I had). And I've gotten a Formula Dodge up to about 120 on a race track. The difference between open and closed cockpit is like night and day. The wind buffets your helmet like crazy. After that I was doing 100 in my regular car and my buddy's RX-7 like it was nothing.

Anyways one day I will get a fast car and see the other side of 150. Until then......

JC

156 on my brothers FZR 750 Drag bike, this was the first and last time I rode it.

BTW almost dumped it, lit the rear wheel up wildly at about 90-100mph, bike was cammed like satan, I think I was in third gear at the time.

240kph in a 1996 Cheverolet Caprice LT-1... the only thing that stopped me from going faster was the wind drag from my overhead light bar. When your going that fast, you can't even hear the sound of your siren, the sound of the wind and your engine is so loud. I reached this speed while I was chasing a Japanese sport bike(Yamaha R-1)down an undivided highway in rural Alberta, Canada. Fucking guy had a 1600m lead on me when I saw him turn off the highway and go down a gravel road(he thought he had cleared my line of sight). I got up to 150kph on the gravel(THAT, scared me to death) and caught up to him... Took me 3 days to calm down after that one.

am I the only one to prefer the Impala over the Victoria/Caprice ? Damn the Victoria was a pain in the ass to drive, especially on ice/snow...

You must work in an urban detachment Manny... I think the Impala is a superior PC in a built up area(city), but the 300HP Caprice is second to none for highway patrol in rural Alberta. I was talking to a Mountie who was in a chase with his Caprice LT-1 "slick"(sans light-bar)... he had it up to 270kph. I don't know why GM stopped making those PC's.

And I ALSO don't like the Ford Crown Vic... in the winter, the back end feels so loose it feels like your towing a trailer. The range on those things was sad too. You had to fill it up twice/shift. Compare that to the 90 litres the Caprice can hold(80L tank/10L reserve).

reminds me the special Camaros the Provincial Police has here. Basically a Z28 with a Corvette engine (340HP I think).... now that must be interesting, but I doubt it could be useful in rural environment.

The fastest I have driven was top speed in my z-28, it said 150 on the speedometer.

The fastest I have been in a car was 170 in a modified 911 at the Atlanta road course. I will take their word for it, because I had my eyes closed for part of it. :eek2:

Biggie,

You should try driving through Europe on the autoban - I though I was gonna die I was so scared my first time. But you know what, you really do gain respect for speed and how to be a mindfull driver.

I can handle speed if I am the one driving. The thing about the ride in Atlanta was even though the driver was a trained sportscar racer, I was more scared because I didn't have any control.

As for the autoban, I would have to place a lot of trust in the other drivers. I have too many trust issues for that.:)

deeyam...170mph on anything other than a track is retarded fast. i would love to be able to experience that and not have to worry about losing control due to hitting a bump or whatever. it would be hard to beat grabbing a z06 or viper and opening it up in the middle of the salt flats where you don't have to worry about a got dern thing.

In a VW Converted Convertable Beetle

265km on the German AutoBahn in a convertable top down.
Absolutley true. I still have the hearing loss. (Stuttgart)

About 220 km/hour in my '94 Talon. Holy fuck that was fast. Stupid thing to do, but damn it was a rush.

I've got a pic of the spedo around here somewhere....

I've since driven a Viper and a few Posches, but I behaved myself. :) Got the viper up to around 190km/hour, and it was still accelerating like crazy...I bet I coulda cleared 250 easy.

I've tried to "pin" all my cars....

120 - Lincoln Versailles (V8)
135 - Merkur XR4ti
145 - (rev limited) BMW 535i
155 - (rev limited) Supra turbo (friend's)
160 - Corvette (friend's)
170 - Lotus Turbo Esprit SE
165 - (rev limiter nixed) MB E55- chickened out...backed off; way too fast for 4000+ lbs four-door.
150 - 911 C4s (I guess with age comes mortality...still haven't had the chance to pin the needle on this one!)

Got up to about 130 in a 88' mustang 5.0 way back when..

Was on the autobahn as a passenger while my cousin was driving & we were cruising at about 130-140 mph,That was in a BMW...

umm, I have driven at 105mph in my nissan truck, and maybe 120 in a friends amc javelin. anything 90+ and I get scared. I am more of a twisty turns kind of guy, instead of top speed.

This thread is too cool. For all of you that are getting vibrations at ANY speed you need to get your tires balanced! There's no excuse for that shit. IF your shit still rattles your suspension is fucked. Get rid of the car before it kills you.

JC

What a WONDERFUL POST!

Let's see, a quick account of my driving history for those not familiar with me:

Age 16: 189mph in a street race on I95 (DADE COUNTY)

Age 18: 152mph on the back roads in Alabama (attending UofA) - rolled car several times when I hit an unexpected spot of gravel

Age 22: 158mph, license suspended for three months

Other speeds to present (Age 32) have averaged between 100-140 (I've slowed down in my old age). Also I've rolled six cars lifetime and flipped a motorcycle going past 100 over railroad tracks.

this thread makes me feel much better about my incredibly small penis.

that said, I've never driven over 7mph. that was crazy fast.

Having been on many back country roads myself - I could totally see how you wouldn't expect gravel on those roads.

they have such a reputation of being in great shape that you should pretty much be able to drive with your eyes shut.

Just did it this past summer 145 and still had splenty left, but had to get off for an exit. I think the cars' top speen is 161. I want to try it again on I-95 were its hits a straight line for like 5 miles.
This car drives better the faster you go

alot has to do with the weather temp and humidity regarding the turbos..the car really picks up and flys when its cold and crisp..but feels much more sluggish in the mid summer in alabama..high heat and humidity..I'm going to install one of those monster intercoolers that runs the length of the front grill

I have had my ZX-12R Ninja to 188 mph. I have modified it and have the speed caping sensor removed.

Once you get over 150 mph it is all the same.

Bikes are tuff to beat with speed.:D

Humidity actually effectively increases Octane rating of gas. Believe it or not before Nitrous there used to be water injection systems. Not many for cars but they were produced on airplanes in high numbers.

I think there is a rule of thumb that for every 10% increase in humidity you can decrease the octane rating of the gas you put in your car by half a point.

Heat slows down a car because the air is less dense and you can't pack as much fule and air into the cylinders.

i did 145 in my stock mustang gt on I-45 coming home from a rockets game. it was scary because at high speeds to much brake can make it go crazy. i was putting to much brake on because i was passing up a titty bar we wanted to go to. man it came up fast.

thats some crazy shit travis50.

my brother in law races off shore boats we did about 120 that is way to fast for me in the water.. seems like you are going way faster then you really are when in a boat.. did about 105 on the back of my brothers ninja i told him to slow the fuck down now!

Fastest car: 00' SVT Cobra R but my boss wouldn't let me hit over 50 in it.

Fastest speed 125mph in a 98 T/A and it wasn't even breakin a sweat. It wasn't mine so I didn't really want to hit it that hard.
