I have a cloud.

What is a cloud?

A cloud is a computer surrounded by other computers and it makes me smart.

My cloud makes my electric bill cheaper.

Don't forget I am worldwide I have an accent.

My cloud makes the world better.

Don't forget I am a woman, and I may be an asian cloud too, or black. Or white.

My cloud makes me avoid traffic.

I'm an IBM'er my cloud makes the world better.

What am I supposed to call them up and ask them for?

cloud computing. the new buzzword.

smarter planet campaign. i have the campaign guidelines "cookbook" at my desk if you'd like to take a look. i know way too much about it already. killmyself.

It was Sun Microsystems idea back before it was IBM's.

They envisioned almost all services you deal with day-to-day coming from a computing cloud somewhere out in cyberland.

The part that I don't really get about the cloud computing is how people don't see how much it's going back to the mainframe era (ie one large server in cyberland and a bunch of smarter terminals around it).

In the late 1990's IBM cut their R&D staff in half and since then have been transition their business to be more service oriented (consulting etc.).

I remember laying in a fresh cut field looking up at the sky on a beautiful fall day and thinking ... all the clouds looks like vags

shared computing process has been around a long time,,,, but now it can be done with server level vs MF computers

IBM is making a killing these days with large scale contracts. Especially worldwide. and yeah - they're trying to appeal to the young week smoking hipsters out there.

Funny, coming from a firm that forces ties, suits, no piercings or tats.

Parallel computing is a very hot topic in CS these days...that and AI.

With multithreading and AI advancements these days...won't be long before Skynet takes over!

It's really more about the programmer and compiler now than it is about the hardware.

You can wire together 1,000 multicore processors but now it's all about distributing the code to use all the hardware more evenly.

Think google apps, sales force and microsoft now, virtaulized applications via the interweb great idea but you must assume your network is always up or your FUBAR.

Hmm. I don't see why they advertise that during football games.

Jesus Christ you guys actually know what this shit is.

I guess somebody needs to catch up on the last few years of Popular Science...

they're dress code is extremely lax for programmers.

Unless you have to interface with the customer there really isnt one to be honest.

Well, yeah, I considered this to be honest. Bur when I took into account the flux capacitor I had to rule out the multicore code distribution element entirely.

they must've been forced to change lately. Last time I went, their offices were all guys wearing white shirts, ties and black slacks. It was like a picture from the 50's.

Which of course assumes your dilithium crystals are completely regenerated.
