What if the sun really moves?

What if the entire galaxy is moving at the same speed, would we know it? Sure, there are other galaxies that have been spotted but they are so far away, would we be able to tell if our galaxy was moving right past them? What if our galaxy is slowly being sucked into a black hole? Do you ever wonder questions like this?

what if a toll gate opens when you drive through. Is this something you think about? How about, I am here I have no brains I say what if it is dark at night.

Come on make something that is less than your normal, well never mind. I doubt that will happen.

I think you think too much about the sucking into things.

Why did the chicken cross the street?

Oh man, that sounds so good right about now. My supplier quit the business 8 months ago and I refuse to approach a street dealer. The street dealers around here haven't figured out that it's bad for business when you kill your customers.

viagra?
won't make it grow just harder! never snort it!

Our sun does move, it's orbiting the center of our galaxy. And we're along with it for the ride. The galaxies move too.

Actually, our galaxy -- as well as every other galaxy out there -- is moving. We're located on one of the spiral arms of the Milky Way, so we're moving with respect to other parts of our own galaxy as well.

You can see our approximate location in this picture.

The reason everything's moving is because of the expansion of space. We know this because we can easily observe the redshift when we look at distant objects with telescopes or other devices. This isn't really new technology -- just a long distance version of the Doppler effect like that used to map the weather for the evening news.

eventually I'm sure the black hole at the center of the milky way will get us.

I think there's a black hole between Plifter's ears.

You can google your questions or ideas, wiki is often quite good for giving a really good basic overview of most topics.

It is quite amazing the clever ways scientists have worked out how to answer some of these questions to the best of our ability by what we know now.

Interesting. I've never taken an astronomy course. So if space is still expanding, does that mean the Big Bang is still taking place?

I like it how you pop up at the right moment bro

Big brother is watching! haha....

Yup.

And one theory is that we'll continue to expand, but eventually lose momentum. Then gravity will start us contracting again and all matter will concentrate to a single point (again). Guess what happens then? Another big bang!

Who knows, this could be the thousandth time we've gone through this cycle.

Maybe this is a recurring test to see if we can ever advance our technology enough during one of these big bang/contraction cycles to save our entire universe!

puff puff pass.
