I first experienced the world of internet discussion forums back in 1994. Most groups communicated through mass e-mails: You subscribed to a "NewsGroup" and everyone read your e-mail to the group. Worked great!
I was (and am still!) involved in automotive and motorcycle forums.
Until now....and guess what I've learned? People LIE on the internet! That seems to be freely understood here but I've never experienced it before! Every group I've been involved with the goal has been to exchange information and eventually meet up somewhere on the road. There is always a bit of exageration, but the socio-economic parameters are pre-defined by the type of car/bike you own...and again: The goal was always to eventually meet.
I've learned about "Alters", made-up personalities, insecurities, pathetic personalities, closeted homosexuals living strange internet lives, e-bullying, store-bought internet credibility, and much more.
I admit I am old and maybe a bit naive about the internet, but I had no clue that such as this existed. A world where you are PRESUMED to be a fake and a liar and you can buy the right to be better than people who you presumedly joined the group to meet!

Is that why you chose your real first name as your handle, to prevent yourself from saying things you would be embarassed about because you thought it would someone tie back into your real life? I have run into the same problem on this board and others, I have said extremely embarassing stuff that I regret now and if I'd used my real name I never would've said much of it.

At the risk of getting bombed, EF attracts a certain type of personality. It takes a certain type of personality to be so discontent with yourself that you feel the need to compensate by having the perfect body. Little boys in Gorilla costumes as Bob Paris used to say, not that I am above it mind you. So insecurity and all the things that come along with it are expected here. interesting. I guess it depends upon your motives. myself, I have no expectations of people, especially those who I do not know, or have never met face to face. I have seen some here that give too much (imho) information about themselves too freely to anyone, weather it be false or true, it is up to them what they post, and up to you to choose to believe it or otherwise. It think it best not to be judgemental about peoples lives, to each his own, lies or not. I come here for the entertainment value, I can't comment on "other forums" because I don't go to any others on a regular basis.
