What Are Your Feelings On Cops?

I lack respect for the majority of cops because many of them, perhaps the majority of them, dont take the job to protect and serve. Rather, they take the job because they get to wear a gun and be a "cop".

Cops will enforce laws on citizens they rarely, if ever, enforce on other cops who committ the same violation.

Proof? Cops arrest and charge people for drug possession all the time. Later, those same cops will smoke weed, drop acid, take E, ect....or even better, smoke the shit they confiscated from little jonny that day whose currently in the slammer waiting arrignment. Same goes for traffic violations. How many times do u think Officer Jagoff will turn on his flashing lights and cruise through a red light simply for convience, while the same day, he'll pull over and ticket some dude who went through a red, and then the guys gotta pay 200 buck traffic fine + 10% increase in annual auto insurance.

perfect.

Im sure some cops are decent people, but North American society is turning into a police state. We ideolize cops and their "heroic" acts. Im sure some are heros, and hey, its a tough job, but guess what. Cops *choose* their line of work. CEO's dont take the job, and then wine about their shitty performance, because all of a sudden they realised being a CEO was "tough". Comes with the fucking line of work.

A police officers major responsibility is to treat the law abiding public with respect. This is the whole SERVE element of the 'protect and serve' law enforcement philisophy. Cops work for the public, not the other way around.

They usually fail miserably at this. Y? cause Officer Jimmys having a shitty day so he's gonnna ticket billy twice as much, and what about Edgar?? fuck, his heads gonna bounce off the pavement twice as hard!!

So cudos to the good cops. And the bad ones, can suck a phat one.

First ... no one said that other professions, including farming and commercial fishing, aren't equally or more dangerous than police work. There are hazzards in many occupations. But to say ONLY 160 deaths per year and classify it as not dangerous is absurd.

Second, a cop will probably be the first person to tell you that they disapprove of mindless ticket writing. The cops didn't make the laws ... your elected officials did. The job of the cops is to enforce the law to the best of their ability. And contrary to popular belief, most local law enforcement agencies do not have traffic ticket quotas. Issuing a traffic ticket is typically left to the discretion of the officer and lots of things influence that discretion. Among them: the driver's attitude, traffic flow, how the driver was operating the vehicle, and, yes, sometimes the officer's attitude. There's no denying that traffic tickets are a source of revenue for the collecting agency, but issuing a ticket usually doesn't secure anyone's job.

Lastly, as our legal system presumes innocence, arresting anyone for any crime is dicey from a logical standpoint. Every arrest is arresting an innocent person. Therefore, should all suspects not be arrested? Again, that's absurd ... especially if you're a victim.

Warik , I dont think you have a grasp on what a Criminal offense is. TRAFFIC IS NOT CRIMINAL. MURDER,RAPE A&B ARE.
Speeding is a CIVIL INFRACTION. In as far is being innocent or guilty.
Question is as follows, was this person speeding? yes or no. Its not very involved?!
I have yet to issue a vio to an INNOCENT person. They may think so. But for POON to stop ya, you have to be going at least 15 over.
YOu cant go to jail for a speeding ticket!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey poon daddy, how many of your town cops juice? Because let me tell you some are big as all hell!!! Be honest now, i think you juice too.LOL!!:D

So, either you're lying about one of these two statements, or you have proven to us that cops are, for the most part, indeed assholes. Cops disapprove of ticket writing, yet they continue to write them when it is up to their discretion? Thanks for validating my argument.

Dude, no offense, but do you act this foolishly on the job? I KNOW THAT SPEEDING IS NOT A CRIMINAL OFFENSE THAT COULD GET YOU ARRESTED!!!

You are confusing a label with a specific law. What part don't you understand? Let me break it down so that you can understand.

Let's attempt to label someone, let's call him "Dude," with regard to his criminal status.

Dude:

1) Dude is not a criminal.
2) Dude is a criminal.

There are no other options for Dude. He is either a criminal or he is not.

Now, Dude is stopped by Mr. "My job is respectable" poon daddy for driving a little fast despite the fact that the road was completely empty and he had perfect visibility in broad daylight. poon daddy is in a "bad mood" today, so Dude gets a ticket. This would suggest that Mr. poon daddy believes that Dude committed a crime, which would make Dude a criminal.

What have we learned today, poon daddy? That, though cops claim to "Protect and Serve," their jobs are really oriented around collecting revenue by mindlessly writing excessive tickets to the innocent citizens they are supposed to protect, but choose to label as "criminals" who have committed crimes.

If you STILL don't understand, I recommend a copy of "Green Eggs and Ham" to hone your reading skills.

I would like to have a civilized discussion on cops here, but seems like you people always bring the same old retard arguments: speeding tickets...blablabla..... There's a reason why a cop will give you such ticket, if you can't figure why then too bad for you. Here the speed limit in highways is 100 km/h. Of course between 100 and 130 you aren't in trouble. Over 130 yes, but its obvious why. Speed limits are made for everyone. Of cocurse some of us could easily drive at 180 safely, but does a cop is suppose to know that ?

Also you aren't happy with the way they work ? Good, next elections just vote for someone else who will bring you satisfaction on this aspect.

Concerning investigators. Warik, bring some facts that it takes up to one year. I recently saw the statistics for the Montreal area and they would make your statement look ridiculous. The reason why you dont get justice is cause of judges and our laws.

A crime is something labeled this way by the Criminal Code or any laws enacted under the power of the CC. Speeding tickets, improve your house without a municipal license (for some cities)... come from by-laws. At least it works this way here in Canada but I guess its the same in the US.

Generally speaking, here in Europe there doesn´t exist the sort of stand-offishness between cops and civilians that has showed itself clearly to me in California. This underlying mistrust and resentment. Perhaps it stems from many of the laws cops are forced to enforce that most people see as just hassling people. (traffic violations, smoking dope) Any thoughts?
